Job Description

As the River Base Transportation Manager role you will maintain the vehicle fleet and train staff to provide reliable transportation and ensure an excellent student experience. As the Transportation Manager you will oversee the flow and logistics of vehicle use as it pertains to course needs for drop-offs, pick-ups, and re-rations, and assist in general facilities upkeep and daily operations of River Base. As with all members of the River Base leadership team, the Transportation Manager plays a key part in creating a positive, supportive work environment driven by student service.

  • This position is onsite in Vernal, Utah, USA. You must have legal working rights in the United States to apply.

  • This role is a two and a half month seasonal position. There may be the possibility to extent into the fall depending on operational needs.

What does a Transportation Manager do?

  • Contribute to an environment that encourages instructors and students to feel relaxed, supported, and focused going into the field.

  • Coordinate vehicle and trailer use and maintenance for River Base operations.

  • Coordinate with the Rocky Mountain transportation department.

  • Coordinate with multiple shuttle companies to plan and implement shuttles.

  • Maintain and continually update communication systems (email, calendars, logistics sheets) to keep operations and program staff informed of transportation plans.

  • Perform vehicle maintenance and repair as skills and resources allow.

  • Drive students and equipment.

  • Supervise Defensive Driver training for staff.

  • Maintain a flexible and supportive atmosphere.

  • Maintain a willingness to step into different roles, and take on additional tasks.

  • Assist with River Base operations – outfitting, rations, meal preparation, and facilities upkeep as necessary to maintain excellent student service.

  • Curiosity about basic vehicle maintenance and ability to learn these skills.

  • Must be at least 21 years old and able to pass a Motor Vehicle Report check. 

  • Excellent driving skills. Comfort with driving and camping in remote areas. 

  • Class B CDL with passenger endorsement preferred not required.

  • Positive attitude, flexible, and solution-oriented approach to challenge.

  • Excellent communication skills; clearly and concisely present logistical plans to other managers, operations assistants, and instructor teams.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced and sometimes unpredictable environment. 

  • Desire to interact with students, build positive working relationships with others, and work in a small community.

  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including some weekends and holidays

This role is on-site at our River Base campus in Vernal, Utah. No remote options are available for this role.
