Commercial Director – The Modern House & Inigo

Purpose

The Commercial Director (CD) is a senior leader in the business. The principal goal of the role is to grow our core UK business - home sales in the UK - by leading high-performing commercial teams. These teams work directly with homeowners who sell their homes through The Modern House & Inigo. 

The purpose of the role is to:  

• Grow our core business in the UK 

• Deliver a brilliant service for our clients 

• Make sure our commercial teams operate efficiently 

• Build and retain a high-performing team 

Responsibilities

The CD’s core responsibilities are to: 

• Contribute to overall company strategy as part of the senior leadership team 

• Set the commercial revenue forecast, targets and strategy to meet them 

• Work with teams to make sure the strategy is understood, championed & delivered 

• Lead on strategic initiatives to drive growth of the core business, whether those are operational, people or product driven 

• Work with other directors to contribute to and support wider business plans 

• Effectively line manage four Heads of Department 

• Report to the Board of Directors on progress

Performance indicators 

The sorts of metrics we frequently look at to understand how well our commercial teams are performing include: 

• Revenue from sale fees 

• Revenue vs headcount 

• Cost of Sales 

• Conversion through the pipeline 

• Time per transaction 

• Client Net Promoter Score (NPS)

Knowledge & Skills

Essential 

• Strong commercial acumen  

• Drive to deliver against targets 

• Deep client-facing experience 

• Deep experience leading sales or commercial teams 

• Good knowledge of the UK property market and transaction process 

• Ability to analyse and model data to inform strategy / plans 

• Excellent leadership skills (communication, collaboration, constructive feedback) 

• Strong design and cultural awareness 

Desirable 

• Estate agency experience 

• Experience training commercial teams 

• Good understanding of UK geography and regionality

Team 

The CD reports to the Managing Director. 

The CD works alongside two other directors:

• Finance & Operations Director 

• Marketing & Product Director 

The CD attends board meetings with the Board of Directors.
