Purpose of Role
The Deputy Head of Investments role presents an exciting opportunity to play an important part in the growth and development of SIS. This role will provide operational and transaction level leadership within the Communities Team, delivering investments to charities and social enterprises as well as supporting the team through the management of a small portfolio of key customer relationships.
We are looking for someone who has previous experience of supporting new lending decisions, as well as relationship management of a portfolio of borrowers. We need someone who is passionate, proactive, can work well both individually and as part of a team and is flexible, adaptable and can manage competing priorities.
What you will be doing
This role is varied and involves being flexible in support of the needs of SIS, but the role includes the following key responsibilities:
Supporting the Head of Investments with leadership of the Communities team, including investment managers and investment support colleagues
Managing a portfolio of existing and new investments including attendance at investee Board meetings. This portfolio will consist of a small number of high-profile and more complex customers
Lead and support pipeline development opportunities within the team to identify and secure new opportunities including maintaining and tracking a pipeline database; assessing opportunities against investment criteria framework; and progress opportunities through diligence phase, including support for proposals at Credit Committee stage
Oversight and responsibilities for approved yet undrawn commitments working closely with the team, in particular the Investment Support Manager.
Working across the SIS team, while supporting and building a network of stakeholders, supporters, investors, and co-investment partners in line with the strategic vision and mission
Support SIS Market Building activities, advocating the work SIS does.
Relevant Skills and Experience
Transactional / deal experience in company finance with experience of structuring complex investment transactions
Able to assess lending applications and provide support to applicants to help with their own investment readiness
Experience of the social sector is desirable but not essential however, applicants should have an appreciation of the work and importance of social enterprise in Scotland and beyond
Leading a small team and ability to inspire/manage performance of the team
Experience of working on own initiative, without ongoing direct supervision
Experience of confidently delivering presentations and participating in meetings.

Our team is primarily based at home with occasional days in SIS’s Edinburgh-based office (agreed on a case-by-case basis but normally 1-2 days per week).
Team members can also use community or co-working venues.
