Job Description

About Us

Proton.ai is revolutionizing wholesale distribution. Distributors sell nearly every physical good you come across. Key to the economy, they make up over 28% of GDP. But there’s a problem. Selling as a distributor is complicated. Distributors carry hundreds of thousands of complicated SKUs, making it impossible for distributors to know what their customers need. Proton cuts through this complexity with AI. We provide a solution that modernizes distributors' sales efforts. And in doing so, we help distributors better serve their customers.

Our company is in hyper-growth mode. We've had significant year-over-year revenue growth, and we just raised a $20M Series A backed by Felicis Ventures (investors in Twitch, Shopify, Opendoor, and many others) and Battery Ventures. Needless to say, it’s an exciting time to join the Proton.ai team.

The Role:

As our Data Engineer, you'll be working closely with data pipelines, databases, and infrastructure in order to deliver an excellent solution to our clients. In this role, you’ll utilize customer data to build the integrations that power the product and machine learning solutions for our customers. As part of our client engineering team, you’ll help us connect our customers' infrastructure to Proton and provide successful data onboardings. This position reports to our Head of Client Integrations.

What you'll do:

  • Utilize Map-Reduce, PySpark, Python, and Spark to process data.

  • Interact with Elasticsearch, Redis, and Kafka to store data in a multitude of formats and storage options (in-memory, on-disk, etc.)

  • Use data orchestration technologies like Airflow to set up data pipelines that power Machine Learning and AI models for our clients.

  • Work with APIs to build processes and features for customers.

  • Use Kubernetes and our microservice architecture to spin up new processes and tailor our application to customer needs.

  • Analyze client data sources to validate format, schema and integrity, and provide insights.

  • Be Proton's technical expert in client onboardings. Help the team identify, scope, and solve technical problems and be set up for success.

You'll be great fit for this role if you have:

  • Data processing expertise. You understand data concepts. You have experience with or willingness to learn distributed processing and frameworks like Spark.

  • An understanding of different ways of integrating with various systems (databases, APIs, file formats, batching, etc.)

  • Execution focused. You fully own a task and drive it to completion (asking for assistance as you need it).

  • Independence. You take ownership of your own work and thrive when given freedom.

  • Empathy for our customers, with the ability to understand the context behind various customer asks.

Benefits

This is a full-time remote position, with occasional paid travel to in-person meetups. Competitive salary $100k (United States—cost of living adjusted for other countries), plus equity, 401k with match, health benefits, 12 weeks' paid parental leave, a quarterly remote benefit stipend, and a take-what-you-need vacation policy (unlimited with a two-week minimum—no maximum).

We're a remote-first company and open to candidates around the world. While we try to accommodate employee's schedules, our business largely operates on Eastern Time.
