National poverty charity, Turn2us, seeks Website Content Lead

With 14.5 million people across the UK living in poverty, and thousands more plunged into financial crisis since Covid, there has never been a more important time to help raise vital awareness of the tools and support available as a lifeline to people struggling to stay afloat.

National poverty charity, Turn2us, is looking for an experienced Website Content Lead to be part of a team that will help shape the charity’s content and Information Architecture for a new website, while ensuring both the smooth migration of content and the ongoing development of SEO optimised website content.

As well as being proactive, organised and with good verbal, written and technical skills, we are looking for someone who can work closely with colleagues across the charity to maintain and develop high performing and accessible content as we strive to challenge the systemic barriers, while offering practical information and support to people when they need it and, ultimately, achieve financial security for all.

This is an exciting time to join the team; we have recently rebranded and created a new tone of voice, which you will be crucial in implementing through dynamic and engaging content. You will also help lay strong foundations for Turn2us’s new website by supporting teams to think strategically about their content, and to create and implement necessary governance processes.

We’re looking for someone who has experience in:

  • Designing, publishing, analysing and optimising content that is based on audience insight and user needs.

  • Using content management systems for consumer-facing websites and in the development and production of websites.

  • Developing and delivering tailored digital content skills training and support.

  • Working on complex, multichannel projects collaborating with key contributors and senior stakeholders.

  • Taking a strategic approach to content and in producing high quality long and short form content in a busy environment.

  • Prioritising and managing your own workload and meeting multiple deadlines.

  • Experience in conducting content audits.

Job Description

Purpose of the Role:

This role will have an overview of website content and how it is produced (excluding information, advice and guidance content). They will lead on creating and refining governance, processes and standards to maintain website content and support content owners to do this. Turn2us is preparing to upgrade to a new Content Management System, so in addition to leading on content for the current website, this role is a crucial member of the team that will be creating the Information Architecture for the new website and ensuring the content migration goes smoothly.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Leading on the development of the website content plan to ensure all content owners produce and maintain only useful, usable content.

  • Training and supporting website editors to use the content management and other digital tools, such as Site Improve, to enable them to effectively maintain their content.

  • Responsibility for editing, proofing and publishing content, ensuring it is clear, consistent and uses house content standards.

  • While this role will exclude all information, advice and guidance content, which is produced by the subject matter experts in the Information Programmes team, the postholder will work in partnership to support the Information Programmes team around process as and when needed.

  • Creating, refining and implementing content guidelines, standards (including supporting the implementation of the new information standard being produced by Information Programmes), governance, processes and workflows.

  • Supporting content owners to maintain, analyse and optimise content for search engines, and work with the Web Developer to identify and implement SEO improvements.

  • Work with colleagues to create standard metrics to measure content performance.

  • Champion producing content that is co-produced by staff and coproduction partners.

  • Work with the User Experience Designer to prioritise content based on the most important user journeys.

  • Lead content audits across the site, working in collaboration and consultation with colleagues across the charity who are responsible for their own site content.

  • Lead the migration of content to our new content management system; including supporting content owners to decide what to migrate and raising issues to the Website Project Manager.

  • Support the User Experience Designer to design the Information Architecture and design patterns for the website.

  • Support the Website project team in user research, compiling reports and planning for the content management system upgrade

These are the normal duties, which the Charity requires from the position. However, it is necessary for all staff to be flexible and all employees will be required from time to time to perform other duties as may be required by the Charity for the efficient running of the charity. This Job Description is non-contractual. It will be reviewed from time to time and may be subject to change.

Person Specification

Skills:                                    

  • Exceptional writer with experience of producing and editing long and short form content.

  • Strong understanding of creating optimal user journeys for different audience segments.

  • Excellent copywriting and proofreading skills and in alignment with brand guidelines.

  • Optimisation of content and the use of analytics to understand content effectiveness.

  • Demonstrate confidence in suing a range of CRM and CMS systems and platforms.

  • Project management with specific experience in managing awareness campaigns.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Good data literacy.                                               

Knowledge:  

  • Understanding of how to take a strategic approach to content

  • Strong understanding of content design techniques, and the confidence to implement these and promote a strategic approach to content.

  • Understanding of Data Protection legislation/GDPR and implications for managing data

Experience:  

  • Significant experience designing, publishing, analysing and optimising content, ideally within a large organisation, based on audience insight and user needs.

  • Significant experience of website production and content management system for consumer-facing websites.

  • Experience of developing and delivering tailored digital skills training and support.

  • Experience of producing high quality content delivery in a busy environment.

  • Experience working on complex, multichannel projects collaborating with key contributors and senior stakeholders.
