Job Description

About the UN Global Compact Network UK:

The UN Global Compact Network UK is part of the United Nations Global Compact, the world’s largest responsible business initiative. We connect UK companies and other organisations to a global movement dedicated to driving sustainable business and action on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The UN Global Compact’s Ten Principles, rooted in UN treaties, provide a robust foundation for our initiative.

Our strategic plan has three pillars:

  • Inspiring business ambition to deliver the Global Goals;

  • Enabling practical action for sustainable business;

  • Shaping a responsible business environment.

We adhere to the core values of the UN and nine additional values and behaviours of the UN Global Compact. Find out more here: https://www.unglobalcompact.org/about/the-un-global-compact-way. You can find information about the UN Global Compact Network UK's governance here: https://www.unglobalcompact.org.uk/about-the-uk-network/governance/.

The Network has over 400 participating companies and we are growing quickly. The Project Manager - Participant Engagement will be responsible for accelerating our growth with outreach to prospects in the UN Global Compact recruitment pipeline and also engaging our current participants to maximise their involvement in our movement.

This is all with a view to scaling the global collective impact of business sustainability. By helping businesses join up and access our support, the Project Manager will enable them to more effectively shape their business strategies to help the world meet the Sustainable Development Goals, while also delivering strong business results.

We are looking for:

  • Someone with knowledge of the UN Global Compact and the responsible business agenda more generally. You will have regular calls and meetings with representatives from businesses of all sizes and sectors, so a strong understanding of their needs and our unique value proposition will be key to ensure high engagement.

  • Someone that is pro-active, persuasive, confident, and has strong interpersonal and communication skills. Experience in sales would be a big asset. You will frequently be on the phone and in meetings with Network participants and recruitment targets to progress and nurture key relationships.

  • Someone that has a customer-oriented attitude. You will need to provide support to our participants and recruitment targets - anticipating and responding to their questions, concerns, and requests.

  • Someone that thrives in a fast-paced environment and works well in a team as well as independently. The Network is constantly evolving and so are our team and needs; you might have to quickly adapt to changes and be ready to work on new projects.

In your first 6 months:

We'll need you to get settled quickly. Through online training and meetings with relevant colleagues, we'll help you to become familiar with our way of working and all the programming offered by the UN Global Compact Network UK and our colleagues at HQ and around the world.

After your onboarding, we'll expect you to:

  • Contribute to drafting a Key Account Management Plan for the year ahead and then start implementing it; you will need to join, and then lead, calls and other outreach to Network participants about their engagement with us.

  • Work on our database of recruitment prospects to qualify contacts and identify targets for further outreach; you will then need to join, and eventually lead, calls and other outreach to recruitment targets persuading them to participate in our initiative.

What are next steps?

If you proceed with your application, you'll be asked to complete an equal opportunities questionnaire. The main reason we're using the Applied platform is to eliminate bias from our hiring process, so it's really important that we have this information so we can see if it's working. We will only ever see stats about groups and never about you; answering these questions will never have an impact on your application.

The next step is to get some essential admin information from you.

Finally, we will ask you to answer four questions designed to test your ability to do the job. Please give it your best effort, your scores on these questions will be the primary consideration in whether you are invited for an interview. To avoid bias, we don't look at CVs until later in the process.

Every application will be scored, and you will receive feedback.

Good luck!
