Job description
This Reviewer role provides the opportunity to work within a small, specialist team who are dedicated to the work of Knowledge & Information Management. The job holder will work within the team to review information, initially physical and then progressing to digital, to ascertain if transfer to The National Archives (TNA) is appropriate and contribute towards the Department meeting its legal obligations regarding information.
The post holder will be part of the Review Team which has 4 staff (including this post) and will report to the Review Manager (grade Higher Executive Officer).
Key Responsibilities
Appraisal of Departmental records to identify those needed for ongoing operational or legal purposes.
· Using a variety of methods, you will distinguish records of continuing value for permanent preservation and transfer to The National Archives.
· Undertake regular visits to our offsite storage facility.
· Create accurate records of your appraisal decisions
· Undertake sensitivity review for classified records and where appropriate apply for retention and closures of records that cannot be declassified.
· Update the Departmental Records Catalogue at all stages of the appraisal process
In addition to the review of information there will be other duties that are shared within the team. These may include:
· Supervision of our Support Team whose main duties are registry and file preparation (max 2 administration officers).
· Assisting the FOI & Inquiries teams in undertaking searches for physical records, and legacy digital records, relating to FOI, EIR and Inquiry requests (especially the Grenfell Tower and Covid-19 Public Inquiries) and producing clear and accurate reports of search results.
· Managing the process to prepare and transfer records to TNA.
· Identification and processing of physical records due for destruction.
· Working on various projects relevant to the role.
Person specification
Skills
· Skills to work flexibly as part of a team.
· The ability to work on own / unsupervised.
· Good knowledge of Word and Excel.
· Working knowledge of M365 SharePoint / Teams or similar.
Experience
· Experience of reviewing information and making a decision based on that information
· Interest or experience in the Knowledge & Information Management profession and an awareness of the legislative requirements for information in a central government organisation e.g. Public Records Act, s46 FOI Act etc.
Qualifications – willingness to obtain a professional qualification or accreditation within the knowledge management profession (full financial support and mentoring will be provided). Reserve List

SC (Security Check):
Important note
Successful candidates for roles based in our 2 Marsham Street building must meet the security requirements before they can be appointed. The level of security needed is Security Check and the process can take up to 8 weeks to complete.

The salary for this role is £25,324 (National).

Internal Fraud Database
The Internal Fraud function of the Fraud, Error, Debt and Grants Function at the Cabinet Office processes details of civil servants who have been dismissed for committing internal fraud, or who would have been dismissed had they not resigned.The Cabinet Office receives the details from participating government organisations of civil servants who have been dismissed, or who would have been dismissed had they not resigned, for internal fraud. In instances such as this, civil servants are then banned for 5 years from further employment in the civil service. The Cabinet Office then processes this data and discloses a limited dataset back to DLUHC as a participating government organisations. DLUHC then carry out the pre employment checks so as to detect instances where known fraudsters are attempting to reapply for roles in the civil service. In this way, the policy is ensured and the repetition of internal fraud is prevented.
