Contracts and Finance Manager
Nuffield Foundation
- Closing: 11:59am, 6th Jul 2021 BST
Job Description
The role
The Nuffield Foundation is hiring a part time Contracts and Finance Manager to manage and support the financial aspects of the Nuffield Foundation-sponsored entities (Ada Lovelace Institute, Nuffield Family Justice Observatory, Nuffield Council on Bioethics, NELI / Nuffield Education Ltd); and to take a lead on providing contractual and legal advice and support to all parts of the Foundation.
Reporting to the Director of Finance and Information Systems and with ‘matrix’ reporting responsibilities to the Directors of the sponsored entities, this role will provide proactive business partnering support to the directors, management teams and budget holders within the Nuffield-sponsored entities. Alongside any contractual and legal matters, this will include supporting financial reporting to the Governing Boards, managing third party income streams (and related financial reporting requirements), and developing financial analysis to facilitate assessment of impact and value for money by working closely with the Directors and management teams.
Beyond the sponsored entities, you will manage the broader legal and contractual framework of Foundation’s grants and contracts and will act as the lead contact across the Foundation for all legal and contractual frameworks, templates and best practice guidance.
About the sponsored entities
What makes this role interesting and unusual is not only its combination of contractual, legal and financial requirements, it also lies in the natural of the entities you will support:
The Ada Lovelace Institute was established in 2018 – it is an independent research institute and deliberative body with a mission to ensure data and AI work for people and society.
The Nuffield Council on Bioethics was founded in 1991 – it is an independent body that informs policy and public debate about the ethical questions raised by biological and medical research.
The Nuffield Family Justice Observatory began its development phase in 2018 - it seeks to improve the lives of children and families by putting data and evidence at the heart of the family justice system.
The Nuffield Early Language Intervention (NELI) is a programme for children in Reception (4-5 years) which has been found to improve children’s language and early literacy skills – the Nuffield Foundation is responsible for the 2021-2022 roll out, funded by an £8m Department for Education grant as part of the government’s wider education recovery package.
About you
We are looking for someone with extensive experience of similar work in a business partnering environment, ideally within a grant making organisation. Also desirable would be experience of working with start up or rapid growth organisations.
You will be comfortable managing multiple projects and have solid experience of managing project delivery with a range of internal and external stakeholders, particularly within contractual boundaries.
You will be a confident communicator, able to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, and who is able to use their influencing and networking skills when required. You will be able to think critically, solve problems, be inquisitive and be able to take innovative approaches.
