Job Description

Mission Statement for Role

Startmate’s mission is to make ANZ the best place in the world to build a startup, but for most people, startups aren’t on their radar. We need to be able to scalably amplify our message, capture interested parties, and build trust and demand so they apply to be part of Startmate.

The purpose of this role is to supercharge how we find, connect with and convert new founders, operators and investors into our community.

Some examples of the challenges you’ll be working through:

  • Creating demand: Organic referrals are already our biggest channel for growth. How can we lean into this and accelerate and scale this channel?

  • Lead capture: How can we optimise our landing pages to increase lead capture from visiting the website to expressing interest in a program?

  • Conversion: How quickly can we learn and improve the way we understand and segment our audience to increase the percentage of people who complete their applications?

  • Experiments and learning: How can we better capture data to drive insights across all areas of marketing? What are the most high-leverage new growth pathways we can experiment with e.g. ads, SEO, different content formats?

Reporting to: Holly Brooks, Senior Marketing Manager

Role Scope: Your Responsibilities

  • Build and manage our marketing engine

    • Description: You build and streamline the backend processes we use to drive our marketing and launch new products. Leverage marketing tools to ensure efficient marketing ops and seamless + scalable customer experience.

    • Examples: Manage EDMs, schedule and publish content across our channels, organise audience lists, set up automations, manage and streamline application processes.

    • Bonus if you have experience with our tech stack (Airtable, Webflow, Mailchimp, Zapier)

  • Run experiments, analyse data and drive meaningful learning and improvements

    • Description: We need a tight feedback loop to help us identify what content on what channels is most effective. You’ll lead and implement conversion rate experiments across our funnel from landing page through to conversion. You can effectively analyse data and identify trends to improve marketing efforts.

    • Examples: Build out live dashboards to track key metrics, triage this data in real time to inform our marketing strategy, report weekly on data, run post-mortems to identify trends between programs/memberships and cohorts.

  • Help create and refine content

    • Description: Build an understanding of our customer personas, the Startmate brand and our broader strategy. Use those insights to help inform content creation and changes to aid in conversion throughout the funnel. Being able to abstract insights from the data and then implement the changes yourself aids in fast and effective experimentation

    • Examples: Edit website landing pages, adjust EDM copy, create graphics and social posts, contribute to creative direction and marketing strategy.

Position Requirements

  • Experience: 1-2 years in a growth-ops-esque role at a startup/scale-up, or similar experience in D2C marketing.

  • Creative problem solver: You’re a strong out-of-the-box thinker with great first principles problem solving. You can pull apart a problem and bring a fresh perspective to help carve a new path forward. We have a lot of autonomy and trust here, so you won’t be sitting around waiting for approval; you should be excited to jump in, figure things out, make mistakes and learn on the fly.

  • Thrive using data: Your superpower is pulling together data in a way that cuts through the noise. You know what to pay attention to and how to interpret and communicate that data in a way creates change.

  • Comfortable using marketing tools/systems: You are tech-savvy and are comfortable diving deep into new tools. You love building systems or processes from scratch and aren’t afraid to get stuck into a challenge.

Communication & collaboration: In the marketing team, you’ll touch almost every other function at Startmate. It is critical that you enjoy working in a team environment towards shared goals.
