About GIF
The Global Innovation Fund (www.globalinnovation.fund) (GIF) is a non-profit, social impact-first investment vehicle that finds, funds, and scales-up cost-effective, evidence-based innovations that have the potential to measurably improve the lives of millions of people living on $5 a day or less.
GIF offers grants, loans and equity-type investments ranging from $230,000 USD to $15 million USD to support a range of innovations with strong potential for social impact at a large scale. So far, GIF has committed $106m to 57 innovations which are expected to benefit 135 million+ people by 2031.
GIF Growth
GIF Growth is a subsidiary of the Global Innovation Fund incorporated in England and Wales. GIF Growth seeks to build on GIF’s track record of investing in innovations with the potential to improve the lives of the world’s poorest people. GIF Growth is seeking to raise and invest up to an initial $100 million to bridge the financing gap between early-stage investments and more commercial private capital that exists for high-impact social innovations which still need concessional capital but are on the path to commercial sustainability.
The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced investment management client service or investor relations professional who is ready to join a “social first” investor and own a brand-new function within the GIF team.
Reporting to the CFO and partnering closely with the Managing Director for GIF Growth, as well as our Director for Donor Relations and the SVP for Europe, the Director, Investor Relations will be responsible for building, developing, and maintaining relationships with all existing GIF Growth investors, onboarding new investors, and running an excellent service delivery platform to ensure investor expectations are met and exceeded. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
Business development
· Develop the GIF Growth’s Fund Placement strategy specifically to raise capital from non-governmental impact focused investors - family offices, foundations, corporations and fund of funds
· Lead fundraising activities, as well as build new relationships and maintain existing relationships with investors
· Build on GIF's strong reputation and networks in the impact investing market, its track record and its dedicated team of impact investment professionals
· Establish and maintain relationships across the industry, including through events, conferences and networking events, to identify and act on business opportunities
· Oversee the preparation of marketing materials, proposals/pitch documents and PPMs
· Lead the preparation of proposals and coordinate investor due diligence
Mandate execution & project management:
· Primary responsibility for investor relationships and service delivery
· Lead the preparation of investor deliverables and reporting
· Provide oversight to project managers through project execution
· Liaise with other teams and individuals throughout the firm to ensure accurate forecasting and close partnership on cross-departmental initiatives, including project teams, Finance, Communications and Legal
· With our Legal team, coordinate investor relations across all transactions, including facilitation of onboarding new investors, investment management agreements, guideline-related issues, and investment compliance matters, where relevant
Practice building & management support:
· Contribute thoughtfully and actively to overall management of the business, including in areas of strategy development, attracting and fostering talent and the development of best practices
· Support the raising of the firm's profile through written thought pieces and public speaking
· Recruit, manage and guide more junior colleagues
Key requirements
· 6-8 years’ experience of working in a team in investor relations with a fund manager, at a placement agency or in a similar environment such as investment banking, private equity, or venture capital
· Require a proven track record of successfully raising capital from institutional investors or family offices and a deep investor network, especially impact minded investors, across Europe and USA
· Preference for someone who understands emerging markets or raised money for emerging markets
· Demonstrated commitment and value alignment to impact investing
· Strong written, communication and presentation skills with the ability to articulate strategy and discuss broader market trends
· Demonstrated relationship-building skills, able to confidently manage relationships with senior professionals internally and externally
· Ability to operate independently and strategically as a thought leader of a new function and in the details of day-to-day investor relations operations
· Experience coaching investment managers on interacting with prospective and existing investors
· Desire to bring existing skill set to a mission-oriented organization in a highly collaborative manner
· Commitment to enhancing a team culture of inclusion, belonging and equity
· Proven track record of successfully reporting quarterly results, leading/project managing multiple projects, meeting deadlines and multitasking with ease
· Level of gravitas and credibility to successfully create internal and external coalitions
· A spirited sense of humour
