Job Description

About Apolitical

Apolitical is the first global peer-to-peer platform for government, helping public servants find the ideas, experts and partners they need to solve the hardest challenges facing our societies. Our network is used in more than 170 countries, including by mayors, ministers and former heads of state.

The role

If you like to move at pace on multiple tasks, take projects from design to execution and evaluation, have a flair for messaging and engaging audiences, this role in the area of community engagement/ communications/ online events might be perfect for you.

As we continue to promote Apolitical to a diverse range of public servants across geography and roles, Apolitical needs to grow and engage certain sub-audiences of public servants more deeply at certain times. This may be because an upcoming offering is especially relevant to them, we have a partnership focussing on a specific sector, or we may be rolling out in new languages.

Apolitical is looking for someone to grow and engage these specific sub-communities. Engagement interventions might look like online events, learning activities, and competitions, amongst other ideas. This is a company critical function that is, for the first time being brought together as one person’s job, allowing the role-holder to individually own this goal while working closely with other teams across the company.

Prior experience is not necessary but concrete evidence of the desired skills is. This is likely to be a suitable role for someone of up to 3 years experience, but will vary by individual.

Your key activities will involve:

  • (15%) Researching policy challenges (the key issues, organisations, people) to support all your growth and engagement activity like generating ideas, writing messaging, finding speakers and participants, and liaising confidently with high profile public servants, academics, and practitioners.

  • (5%) Design of ‘community’ interventions to achieve the targeted growth and engagement goals.

  • (20%) Writing messaging to communicate the significance of a policy issue in a concise and engaging way, and setting up engaging email communications.

  • (30%) Executing on interventions (eg. like online events, learning experiences, interactive content).

  • (25%) Ringleading the activation of distribution channels across the company to promote an intervention or reach the required audience - like third party distribution partners, social media, and engaging our community.

  • (5%) Tracking and evaluation of your interventions.

Who we are looking for -

You have these essential traits which you will further hone in the role:

  • Creative - You enjoy thinking of new ways to engage identified groups.

  • Strategic - Your ideas match the reality of the resources available to you. You can see how others’ work can support your goals.

  • Organised and attentive executor and project manager - You enjoy zooming in and executing on multiple projects, as well as zooming out (being strategic).

  • Excellent communicator - Your communication is persuasive and compelling. You can credibly communicate with seniors. You are great at working with other teams.

  • Data and goal driven - You enjoy assessing the effectiveness of your effort by analysing data.

  • Passion -You are enthusiastic about i) building and engaging specific audiences through digital methods, and ii) learning about policy and the public service.

In addition you will develop skills in:

  • Using email software, like Hubspot

  • Basic coding

  • Running effective experiments and build a new function in a startup

  • Building online communities

  • Public speaking and moderation (through preparing the speakers and moderators, and possibly, in the future leading online events yourself)
