About us

Transparency International is a global movement sharing one vision: a world in which government politics, business and the daily lives of people are free of corruption. Transparency International UK is the UK national chapter of this movement. We work with the British government, parliamentarians, civil society and the private sector to tackle corruption at home, addressing the UK’s global corruption footprint and helping multinational companies prevent corruption by operating with integrity. We are also home to two major global programmes tackling corruption in the Defence and Security sector and Global Health on behalf of the wider Transparency International movement.

The Global Health Programme works with partners to ensure effective, accountable and transparent health systems which leave no room for corruption and deliver Universal Health Coverage, a component of SDG-3.

We apply practical and implementable transparency and accountability solutions to address global health problems to ensure people can access the medicines and care they need. We effectively combine our knowledge of how health systems work with leading anti-corruption research, tools and approaches to build resilient, sustainable, and gender sensitive health systems.   

About the role

As research manager you will be responsible for managing the Global Health Programme’s pipeline of research activities. You will work with the team, academics, and other stakeholders to identify, design, and deliver on new research on corruption in the health sector in to ensure the programme delivers on its objectives.

You will oversee the management of data sets held by the programme, and work to partners to identify and use new data sources to allow corruption in the health sector to be better understood. This will include making use of, and analysing publicly available procurement data, as well as data collected by the programme through media monitoring of corruption reports. You will work closely with colleagues engaged on communications and advocacy to translate research findings into actionable policy recommendations and advocacy calls.

In addition to this role you will…

  • Develop research proposals, and work with the wider team on the development of grant proposals

  • Identify potential funding opportunities to further the work of the programme, in particular around budgeting, resource allocation, and procurement

  • Lead on the development of machine learning, and AI approaches to improve data collection on corruption

  • Maintain relationships with key research partners, and develop new partnerships

  • Provide support and advice to partners, both within the TI movement as well as external partners

  • Synthesise learnings from the programme’s work to produce lessons learned, best practice examples

  • Organize dissemination events and represent the programme in relevant fora

  • Work with team members to ensure that learnings from research are properly fed into programmatic work

About you

To be successful in the role you will have/will be:

  • Knowledge of key global health priorities, and an understanding of the impact of corruption upon them

  • Experience of leading research projects and in leading the development of reports, and policy briefs.

  • Demonstrated experience in quantitative and qualitative data analysis

  • Be able to demonstrate a strong understanding of the linkages between and impact of corruption in the health sector

  • Strong report writing skills, and the ability to synthesise large amounts of information

  • Knowledge and experience of working to improve procurement transparency in the health sector

  • Experience of using Python, Kibana and/or SQL

  • Understanding of machine learning and AI approaches, and experience of using such approaches for research purposes.

  • Excellent communication skills and cross-cultural skills

Desirable

  • Demonstrated experience of working on procurement in the health sector

  • Experience in the development of data dashboards, using tableau, or similar programmes

  • Lived experience of the impact of corruption in the health sector

  • Experience and knowledge of ethics, compliance, and corruption and its impacts are an advantage
