About the IMEU:

The Institute for Middle East Understanding (IMEU) is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit that educates audiences in the U.S. about Palestine and Palestinians through media. We do this by offering mainstream U.S. media access to facts, analysis, and experts to help them cover the issue accurately and in-depth, and by creating and disseminating original videos, graphics, and other content. 

About the Role:

The Associate Director of Editorial will co-lead IMEU’s digital media strategy, vision, and execution, and help write and review editorial content, working with a small but dynamic digital team consisting of writers, producers, and digital designers. This role requires strong writing and editing skills, a strong understanding of social and digital media platforms, knowledge of Palestine and the US media landscape, and the capacity to curate timely, engaging content aligned with IMEU’s strategic objectives.

Working closely with senior leadership, the Associate Director of Editorial will oversee the planning, development, and publication of content across IMEU’s platforms, including social media channels, the podcast, and the website. They will be responsible for reviewing and editing copy and content. This is an excellent opportunity for a digital media professional eager to contribute to a mission-driven team amplifying underrepresented voices.

The Associate Director of Editorial will be accountable for the following areas: 

Team Leadership

• Co-manage and mentor a team of digital staff, fostering growth and professional development.

• Co-lead team meetings, establish priorities, and provide regular feedback.

Content Strategy & Execution

• Co-develop and oversee the implementation of IMEU’s social media strategy, ensuring timely, high-quality, and engaging content.

• Ensure platforms reflect current events and push key conversations relevant to IMEU’s mission.

• Adjust approaches based on audience engagement and digital media performance analytics. 

Editing & Approval

• Edit and approve copy from digital content creators.

• Write copy for various digital content as needed.

• Review and approve final content, maintaining adherence to IMEU’s best practices and editorial standards.

Campaign Development

• Execute and manage strategic social media campaigns that align with IMEU’s objectives.

• Collaborate with IMEU teams and external partners to amplify messaging and expand reach.

Creative Vision & Innovation

• Generate innovative ideas to tell impactful stories across platforms, leveraging visuals and text effectively.

• Balance news developments with evergreen and educational content to maintain a dynamic presence.

Qualifications:

• 5–7 years of experience in digital media, with a track record of successful management.

• Strong writing, editing, and storytelling experience, with excellent news prioritization skills.

• Expertise in social and digital media platforms and audience engagement strategies.

• Proven ability to create and execute high-impact digital media campaigns.

• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

• Knowledge of Palestinian history, politics, current events, and culture.

• Commitment to IMEU’s mission and passion for Palestinian rights.

• Flexible, adaptive, and resourceful work style with a proactive problem-solving mindset.

• Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills with the ability to work across teams and with partners.

• Resilience when exposed to difficult subject matter, with a focus on maintaining efficacy and momentum.

• Detail-oriented and organized, with a willingness to step in wherever needed.
