About the IMEU:

The Institute for Middle East Understanding (IMEU) is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit that educates audiences in the U.S. about Palestine and Palestinians through media. We do this by offering mainstream U.S. media access to facts, analysis, and experts to help them cover the issue accurately and in-depth, and by creating and disseminating original videos, photo essays, and other content. 

About the Role:

IMEU is seeking a Digital Writer to join the IMEU Digital Team and write compelling social media and website content that educates US audiences about Palestine and Palestinians. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated track record of success in writing social media and article content, proven expertise in SEO, knowledge about Palestine, a passion for IMEU’s mission, and a solutions-oriented attitude. This is primarily a social media writing role, with some article writing.

The Digital Writer will be accountable for the following areas: 

Content Operations

• Participate in brainstorming sessions to help identify emerging trends and innovative content ideas.

• Support the ongoing refinement of editorial workflows, content calendars, and publishing processes.

• Help identify opportunities to improve efficiency, scalability, and quality across content systems.

• Maintain organized documentation and version control for content assets.

Social Media Writing

• Craft engaging, platform-specific copy for social media channels, including Instagram, TikTok, X, Facebook, and YouTube, ensuring alignment with brand voice and tone guidelines.

• Write short- and long-form video content scripts, resulting in arresting, high-impact copy for organic and paid social.

• Create rapid-response social copy for breaking news.

• Stay current on platform trends, audience behaviors, and emerging formats to optimize content performance.

• Apply engagement insights to improve future content.

• Contribute to the development and evolution of social media content strategies and workflows.

Article Writing and SEO Content Strategy

• Research, write, and edit high-quality, content-rich articles for the IMEU website that are informative, engaging, and aligned with IMEU’s goals.

• Apply SEO best practices, including keyword research, on-page optimization, internal linking, and metadata development to increase search visibility and organic traffic.

• Develop compelling article structures, headlines, and subheadings that improve readability and reader engagement.

• Regularly audit, update, and optimize existing content to maintain relevance and performance.

• Ensure all article content reflects brand voice, editorial standards, and audience needs.

Qualifications:

• 3-5 years of experience in online content writing.

• Proven expertise in writing copy for social media platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X, and Facebook.

• Excellent reporting, writing, and copy-editing skills with meticulous attention to detail.

• Experience writing in descriptive, analytical, and narrative style formats.

• Proven experience in writing online articles.

• Strong knowledge of SEO best practices and experience in optimizing article content for search engines.

• Commitment to IMEU’s mission and a passion for social justice and Palestinian rights.

• Knowledge of Palestinian history, politics, current events, and culture. 

• Ability to understand, develop, and improve operational systems and processes.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to anticipate and address challenges proactively.

• Capacity to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines, whether independently or collaboratively.
