Job Description

About Us

The National Institute of Teaching researches and delivers teacher development programmes. We were founded by four of England’s largest Multi Academy Trusts – The Harris Federation, Oasis Community Learning, Outwood Grange Academies Trust, and Star Academies.

We were awarded £2.4m by the Nuffield Foundation to deliver a ground-breaking research programme – Teaching Improvement through Data and Evaluation (TIDE) in collaboration with UCL, Evidence Based Education, and Teacher Tapp.

TIDE will develop a novel measure of teacher impact using data from our founding MATs; explore the statistical contributors to our measure; and then co-create and evaluate interventions that can increase teacher impact. We think this programme will revolutionise research on teacher development.

About the Role

We are recruiting a Senior Research Advisor to lead on intervention development and evaluation, and support on the rest of TIDE. You will work closely with word leading academics, NIoT’s Programmes Team, and cutting-edge AI consultants, to co-create a novel intervention based on insights from the rest of the TIDE programme. You will also lead the design and implementation of a Randomised Controlled Trial (RCT) of this intervention.

In addition to being a specialist in RCT design and delivery, you will be an innovative and practice-minded researcher who strives to bridge the nexus between research and practice in teacher education.

Corporate Responsibilities

  • To ensure that the responsibilities of the role are carried out in a way which reflects the mission and the values of the NIoT.

  • To be aware of and observe all policies, procedures, working practices and regulations, and in particular to comply with policies relating to Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety, Confidentiality, Data Protection and Financial Regulations, reporting any concerns to an appropriate person.

  • To comply with all reasonable management requests.

Main Duties & Key Responsibilities

  • Developing a portfolio of innovative projects by identifying new opportunities, writing proposals and leading pitches.

  • Co-create improvements to teacher development programmes, in collaboration with our Programmes Team and the rest of the TIDE delivery team.

  • Lead the design and implementation of large-scale RCTs of these interventions.

  • Support the rest of the TIDE programme as needed (the programme comprises 11 research projects).

Essential Criteria

  • Experience in designing interventions in education (schools or higher ed) in partnership with multiple stakeholders.

  • Experience designing and implementing large-scale (i.e. multiple site) RCTs.

  • Experience of interdisciplinary work and a versatile skillset (i.e. of quantitative and qualitative work)

  • Master’s degree in social science, business administration, education, research methods, or other relevant field

  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills

  • Excellent organisation skills and attention to detail

  • Commitment to the aims of the NIoT

Desirable Criteria
