About Rusty Quill

Rusty Quill (RQ) is a London-based, UK entertainment production company and podcast network. We specialise in creating original, free-to-consume content as well as offering third party production services, with the aim of providing an equal opportunity platform for new and interesting voices and talent. Our podcasts currently receive in excess of 5,000,000 listens each month and according to recent industry metrics, we are currently the most successful independent audio drama podcast network in Europe.

About you and the role

We are looking for a part-time Chief Technical Officer, to work in a job-share with our existing CTO to line manage the Technical team and work at a strategic level in C-Suite as we enter the mainstream media market and significantly scale-up our operations.

This role involves:

  • Daily coordination and communication with a job-share partner

  • Developing technical aspects of the company’s strategy to ensure alignment with its business goals       

  • Discovering and implementing new technologies that yield competitive advantage       

  • Helping departments use technology to streamline their workflows      

  • Supervising system infrastructure to ensure functionality and efficiency                  

  • Building quality assurance and data protection processes                   

  • Monitoring KPIs and IT budgets to assess technological performance

  • Manage IT Budgets for the company software and hardware and ensure the most competitive and fit for purpose options are utilised

  • Communicating technology strategy to leadership                   

  • Using leadership feedback to inform necessary improvements and adjustments to technology

Requirements

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Proven experience as a CTO or a similar leadership role with organisational aspects                    

  • Knowledge of broad technological trends to help build strategy        

  • Understanding of budgets and business-planning

  • The ability to conduct technological analysis and research   

  • Excellent communication skills  

  • Strategic thinking           

  • High Problem-solving aptitude

Helpful secondary qualities are:

  • Understanding of podcast technologies including RSS distribution

  • Experience working with large media file storage solutions                                         

  • Experience working with AWS

  • Experience working with Microsoft Teams                         

  • Web Dev experience including Wordpress

Person Specification

An ideal candidate is:

  • Highly Organised, self-disciplined and self-motivated

  • Able to work well in a distributed working environment with minimal oversight

  • A strong communicator

  • Actively interested in online media production (especially podcasting)

  • Familiar with our existing work and online communities

  • Comfortable with formal reporting where relevant

  • Comfortable engaging in “geek culture”

  • Comfortable working in a shared-role
