Job Description
ABOUT US:
At Founders Pledge, our mission is to empower entrepreneurs to do immense good. Since launching in 2015, we’ve raised over $10 billion for the most impactful social causes. We offer the simplest path to impact for successful entrepreneurs, providing end-to-end giving infrastructure, pioneering research, and access to a worldwide network of experts. In other words, we help tech leaders become strategic philanthropists. Our 1800+ members include the people behind industry-leading companies such as Airbnb, UiPath, Dropbox, Skype, Spotify, and Uber.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
We’re now looking for a Philanthropic Services Director to lead and develop a world-class philanthropic services offering to our HNW members. This will cover 2 areas:
1. Overseeing our overall philanthropic services, led by our PS Operations Lead, including our in-house Donor Advised Funds (DAFs) in the UK, US and Germany, member contributions, grants management, investments, FP funds, opex and pass-through giving, to facilitate operational excellence, process optimisation and efficiency. You’ll also manage relationships with partner organizations in other countries.
2. Building and running our new complex assets program, both internally and externally. You’ll support our external teams (specifically our US Managing Director) in member acquisition as the technical expert for members wishing to pledge and process complex asset donations. You’ll also make sure we have the processes and procedures set up internally to be able to manage complex assets.
Reporting to our UK-based CFO, this is a fantastic opportunity to take our philanthropic service offering to the next level, building the infrastructure for moving funds to the highest-impact causes worldwide.
You’ll be responsible for:
Line management of our PS Operations Lead to ensure our overall philanthropic services offering provides an exceptional customer experience for our members and operates efficiently.
Building and executing our complex assets program, including building a strategy and a plan to launch and deliver a competitive complex assets service. You’ll be our complex assets content expert, providing technical expertise including in relation to associated laws and best practices.
Supporting our USMD and Growth team to sign up and on-board new members who are excited by our unique DAF offering and associated services. You'll interface directly with members where there are bespoke requirements in relation to complex assets that require liaison with legal counsel to manage risk.
Building Founders Pledge’s brand awareness by attending training and conferences, as our in-house DAF expert.
Developing DAF policies, procedures, governance practices, and marketing strategy/collateral with the support of our Comms team.
Working with and across Philanthropic Services, Finance, the appropriate FP committees, and with Trustees to mitigate risk and protect the organization.
Ensuring rigorous reporting and accounting of incoming donations, grant deployments, and investments alongside our Financial Controller.
ABOUT YOU:
You’ll have:
Experience in complex assets management: Knowledge of policies, procedures, and requirements to accept charitable donations of a wide range of gifted assets, including cash, publicly-traded securities, crypto assets, privately held stock, limited partnerships, and corporate interests.
Ability to define a vision and develop an implementation strategy for a competitive DAF offering, and to ensure that this vision is communicated across company stakeholders and driven to execution.
Experience leading and growing an operations team for a philanthropic organization, including a demonstrated ability to nurture team culture in a distributed work environment.
Familiarity with charitable regulations and best practices in the US philanthropic sector, particularly with respect to Donor Advised Fund administration. Any knowledge of UK and Germany charitable regulations is a bonus.
Awareness of top trends in donor-led philanthropy across our key geographies.
Track record of building relationships with professional advisors and other key networks, and building brand and program awareness through public thought leadership, such as attending conferences, industry gatherings, and other events.
We’re also interested in these nice to haves:
Deep knowledge of charitable grantmaking and giftmaking regulations, including experience with international grantmaking, complex gifts, and investment programs.
Exposure to key audit, compliance, and financial requirements for charitable foundations.
Experience launching new initiatives or programs that impact cross-departmental operations.
Familiarity with leading technical platforms (Salesforce and Sage experience a plus), global banking/payments partners, and project management approaches.
Experience managing vendors and/or consultants to support on key initiatives.
Demonstrated commitment to data-led decision making, and overall comfort with reading and analyzing data.
WHY WORK WITH US?
You can find more about the benefits we offer here, but what makes us truly special is both our mission and our people. We’re a diverse team, from both charitable and commercial backgrounds, who believe that amazing things can happen when we tackle problems together. We offer a flat structure and an opportunity to help shape the future of philanthropy.
Some travel may be required with this role. This may include attending events, our annual strategy week (in London) and our global offsite, when we bring together the entire FP team.
We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at Founders Pledge. We seek people with different strengths, experiences and backgrounds, who share our drive to understand and solve complex social challenges. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, colour, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
Finding solutions to the world’s most pressing problems requires different perspectives and unique ways of thinking and we are committed to building an inclusive and diverse workplace where everyone can do their best work.
