Job Description

We’re looking for a Senior Compliance Officer

Getting a mortgage is complex, frustrating and slow. Habito is on a mission to change that, with cutting-edge technology and a straightforward service that puts customers in control.

We’re looking for an experienced Senior Compliance Officer to provide second line oversight and challenge to the whole business, monitoring customer journeys and keeping us honest against the legislative and regulatory obligations that apply to us.

You’ll join our fast-moving Risk & Compliance team, bringing your insight and experience to inform our Compliance Monitoring Plan and enhance the risk and compliance culture.

It won’t be simple. We think differently, and want to challenge how assurance is gained. So if you’re motivated by a challenge, this is the place for you.

More about what you’ll do:

  • Work closely with the CRO to evolve and execute Habito’s Group Compliance strategy and framework

  • Evaluate mortgage journeys in line with Habito policy and external regulations to ensure appropriate compliance

  • Provide technical compliance advice and guidance to our Brokerage and Conveyancing Operations teams

  • Provide regular support and guidance to the wider business, including input into new product development

  • Conduct compliance monitoring of the first line and provide case specific feedback to Mortgage Experts and Conveyancers after file reviews

  • Provide independent and accurate reporting of Habito’s compliance landscape

  • Deliver against the Compliance Monitoring Plan and lead on initiatives like SMCR, Regulatory Reporting and Conflict of Interests

  • Lead risk and compliance assessments including thematic reviews and targeted deep dives

  • Assist with the documentation, implementation and streamlining of policies, procedures and processes

  • Conduct customer, partner and supplier due diligence

  • Develop and maintain a communication programme to ensure all stakeholders are fully trained and aware of relevant risks and related requirements and responsibilities

  • Conduct root cause analysis of compliance issues that arise, considering the regulatory, commercial and reputational impacts

You’ll have:

  • Experience designing, maintaining, improving and overseeing firm wide compliance initiatives. The role requires a strong level of technical knowledge across all areas of Compliance and applying this to various business functions

  • Experience with compliance reporting to executive leadership and presenting information in digestible and understandable formats

  • A strong understanding of the compliance disciplines and FCA principles

  • A good working knowledge of the end-to-end mortgage process

  • Demonstrable experience in operating in environments where compliance frameworks are followed

  • The ability to prioritise and deliver in a fast paced and demanding environment to tight deadlines

  • An attention to detail, with a methodical and organised approach

  • Good communication and stakeholder management skills

  • Self-motivation and prepared to take responsibility and ownership of tasks

  • The ability to work independently, using your initiative and work as part of a wider team

**The stated experience level is a guide and does not preclude applications from  candidates with more or less experience, provided the requisite skills can be demonstrated

Under SMCR we require enhanced checks and references to be satisfied before employment is commenced. Due to the nature of the enhanced checks, start dates may be affected by 8 weeks.

The benefits

  • Remote-first working

  • Share options - you own a piece of the company

  • Flexible holiday - 25 days holiday and more if you need it! (this is team dependent)

  • Enhanced maternity & paternity leave - for when you plan to start a family

  • Free Private healthcare - Bupa complete cover, for peace of mind

  • Life assurance - 4 x your annual salary

  • Career progression - we help you build your career

  • £450 annually - for your learning and development

  • Contributory pension scheme - We have an ethical pension fund, but you can decide where you put your money

  • Cycle to Work Scheme - to keep you on the move
