Project Description:

Last year was a breakout year for generative AI. It is going to be a game-changer for Earth Blox, and we're going to be harnessing its lightning-fast power to supercharge how we support our customers. We’ll deliver smoother user experiences, and deeper insights at their fingertips. At the same time, AI is going to help us deliver more efficient and cost-effective ways of supporting and scaling to a larger customer base. This project allows the intern to be a part of the exciting future AI unleashes.

Our customer's projects are like journeys, and AI will be their expert co-pilot. The intern will contribute to the development of our next-level AI models that guide our users every step of the way. We will support our customers at three main stages of their journey: Input, Analyse, and Output.

At the input stage, when they need a customised workflow or are overwhelmed by data, drawing from our proprietary database of solutions, the model will suggest the best analysis methods, saving them time.

During the analysis stage, the model will internally identify the most efficient way to deliver for the customer. The intern will contribute here through computation estimation and optimisation.

Finally, at the output stage, when the users need to unlock the hidden secrets their data holds, our multi-modal AI will be their interpreter, translating complex findings into actionable insights. The model will take multi-modal outputs and synthesise those to provide a clearer understanding of what it means for the customer.

Skills you will develop whilst carrying out the project

  • Software Development Life Cycle

  • The application of LLMs to Earth Observation - Earth Observation Data Analyses

  • Software Development in the Cloud

  • Applications of Data Science

  • Research and development practices

  • Customer interaction and engagement

  • Understanding of nature and climate regulations and how they impact organisations, plus the operational requirements under these schemes

  • what are organisations trying to achieve, and what are the technical parameters within which they need to operate, plus how that fits into the wider picture of environmentally sustainable business practises

Applicant Specification:

  • Has attained or is in the process of attaining a numerical degree, ideally specialising in AI, Machine Learning, or Data Science

Minimum requirements:

  • Passion and enthusiasm

  • Proficient in python

  • Experience using AI models

  • Ability to work in a small team

  • Ability to work independently

Desirable (but not mandatory):

  • Previously used the OpenAI or Google API

  • Some experience in software development

  • Some knowledge of earth observation or remote sensing

Process details:

  • 8 weeks minimum fixed term contract to be agreed with the successful candidate

  • In-person Induction Event to be held on [date], and an in-person/hybrid Showcase Event to be held at the [place/date]

  • 5 days holiday to be taken during the placement

In Earth Blox, our innovative AI is designed to help users make decisions faster. Beyond standard machine learning approaches for satellite data processing, we are pioneering the use of AI and natural-language interaction to guide users in selecting the appropriate solution

The intern would join a dynamic, mission-driven and award-winning team. We have received funding from the Royal Society of Edinburgh, Innovate UK and won both the highly competitive Converge Challenge and Scottish Edge prizes in 2020. We are considered a High Growth Venture by Scottish Enterprise.
