Job Description

Project Description:

KISPE are developing an open-source satellite ground station to support its open-source satellite development programme, and the company’s hands on training activities.

Tasks within the project supported by our engineers will include:

  • Continue the development of the satellite ground station system architecture.

  • Assess the status of key system elements.

  • Implement satellite tracking algorithms, antenna controller and doppler frequency correction algorithms.

  • Install and configure YAMCS mission control hardware

  • Integrate and configure all software elements for unattended operations.

  • Systems testing with a satellite simulator

  • Documentation the set upand use to be used open-source to aid others.

  • Time depending, receive and decode real satellite data or begin the design and build of the hardware aspect of the ground station.

Applicant Specification:

KISPE are looking for candidates that are enthusiastic, inquisitive, motivated, and self-starting to come and join our team for the summer. The company blendsthe knowledge and experience of a highly skilled team who have designed, built, and operated many satellite missions, with a small company environment, acollaborative and disruptive ethos, and a desire to stimulate the utility and application of space, and to do things differently.

Minimum Requirements:

The candidate must

- Be a UK passport holder.*

- Be older than 18.*

- Be a quick learner, curious and creative.

- Be able to work independently and as part of a team.

- Be open to new challenges.

- Have knowledge of satellite systems.

Desirable Requirements:

To be undertaking further education in the following disciplines:

- Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Maths or similar

- Familiarity with Linux preferable

- Familiarity with YAMCS, GNU Radio Companion, Software Defined Radios, useful but not essential, this can be learnt on the project.
