The Registry team at the NIoT plays a crucial role in the mission of the NIoT by delivering services which support the administration of student records from enrolment through to graduation. The Registry team ensures that all aspects of the student lifecycle meet regulatory requirements and provide an exceptional student experience.

About the Role

This is an exciting new role within the newly formed Registry team! We are looking for a bright and focused Assessments and Awards Manager, who will be responsible for leading and managing the NIoT’s processes for student assessment, progression and award within Registry.

This will involve ensuring that in all aspects of NIoT assessment are compliant with rules and regulations, and that our processes are efficient.

As a strong team player, the successful candidate will be the main point of contact for Faculties and NIoT staff, and supporting these colleagues to ensure that we are delivering an exceptional student experience.

To succeed, you will need significant experience in student administration, with a passion for providing a first class student experience, and have a strong understanding of HE regulations and quality assurance frameworks. A first class degree or equivalent is also essential.

Corporate Responsibilities

  • To ensure that the responsibilities of the role are carried out in a way which reflects the mission and the values of the NIoT.  

  • To be aware of and observe all policies, procedures, working practices and regulations, and in particular to comply with policies relating to Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety, Confidentiality, Data Protection and Financial Regulations, reporting any concerns to an appropriate person.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Responsible for the delivery and management of all assessment, progression and award activity at the Institute.

  • To lead and manage the activities of colleagues responsible for assessment, progression and awards

  • To oversee and monitor all data on student assessment, progress and award and ensure that data is accurately recorded, presented and is available to the relevant boards in line with the assessment calendar

  • To coordinate with faculties and departments as required to ensure that assessment, progression and award activities are completed in line with the relevant deadlines

  • To coordinate, service and support assessment boards across the NIoT

  • To support the quality assurance processes relating to student assessment, progression and awards including moderation processes

  • To manage the processing and coordination of academic appeals

  • To manage the processing and coordination of extensions and extenuating circumstances

  • To manage the requirements of the relationship with external examiners in relation to assessment, progression and awards

  • To manage the processing and coordination of concerns relating to Academic Integrity

  • To be the lead contact with any partner organisation in relation to assessment and awards

  • To provide specialist advice and guidance to NIoT staff on rules, regulations and policies relating to assessment and awards

  • To support with the Registry aspects of the NIoT graduation ceremonies

  • To build and maintain effective relationships with key NIoT stakeholders and relevant partners and to support and implement any regulatory or process changes in partnership with faculties and departments

  • To work closely with NIoT stakeholders to understand, advise and drive improvements in programme assessment process requirements reflecting appropriate professional, statutory and regulatory body standards.

  • To lead or support key projects within Registry working closely with members of the professional services teams.

Essential Criteria

  • A commitment to the aims of the National Institute of Teaching.

  • An interest in the education sector and a belief in the value of teachers and school leaders. 

  • A first degree or equivalent.

  • Significant experience in student administration, particularly in exams, awards and assessments management.

  • Strong understanding of UK higher education regulations and quality assurance frameworks.

  • Strong relationship management skills, including communication, engagement, facilitation and negotiation skills.

  • Knowledge of data protection regulations and best practices in handling sensitive information.

  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.

  • Experience of managing complex administrative processes in an educational setting.

  • Experience of work involving understanding and interpreting procedures or regulations and providing guidance to others.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Proficient in the use of MS Office software packages, such as Word, Excel and Outlook.

  • Experience of servicing committees or boards.

  • Experience of using a management information system or CRM system.

  • Experience of managing, analysing, interpreting and presenting data.

  • The ability to problem solve to resolve both operational and strategic issues.

  • Experience of designing and delivering improvements to processes and/or services.

  • The ability to thrive in a start-up environment.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience within an examination, assessments or awards role in Higher Education at a managerial level.

  • Experience of policy development and implementation.

  • Experience of project management.

  • Evidence of continued professional development.
