Job Description
We’re looking for a Policy Manager in our Long-Term Savings team. You’ll work closely with the Heads of Long-Term Savings Policy to develop and implement strategy and policy on the long-term savings and pension insurance market, and their investments. You’ll also help lead your part of the team and line manage two Policy Advisers.

What’s the job?
Lead the ABI’s strategy and policy development on a variety of long-term savings and pension insurance issues, including pension investment policy.
Work closely with the wider team and with colleagues across the organisation, which include Conduct or Prudential Regulation, Tax and Comms and Public Affairs team.
Manage and retain a small, highly motivated, high performing team, working closely with the Heads of LTS Policy.
Build and maintain strong networks, through which to influence and gather insight, with senior members, prospective members, representatives of government, regulators, commentators and wider investment stakeholders.
Represent the interests of the UK’s long-term savings and pension insurance market with key stakeholders (e.g. in Government, regulators etc), in the media, and by undertaking speaking engagements.
Represent the LTS team at various ABI committee meetings (including C-suite) taking responsibility for managing committee agendas and papers in liaison with the Assistant Directors and Senior/Policy Advisers.
Lead policy debates at these member groups to develop and advance credible positions which take into account the views of members and the impact on consumers.
Provide technical expertise to support cross-organisational queries and requests for views on policy issues.
Lead engagement with the Events and Membership team on LTS-led events and ABI events where a LTS breakout may be required.
What skills are we looking for?
Policy knowledge - you understand how the policy and regulatory environment impacts on long term savings and pension insurance providers, or wider financial services sector.
Line management – you can line manage, develop, motivate and effectively delegate to a team, as well as lead and take ownership of a broad and varied remit of your own work.
Galvanising support for policy positions – you can lead and challenge member thinking, and steer discussions to gain consensus.
Lobbying skills – ability to win confidence of senior people in member firms, government, regulators and elsewhere, and to argue persuasively for the industry’s interests.
Relationship management– ability to work proactively with colleagues to get positive results, as well as build credibility with C-suite and other senior stakeholders.
