About the Centre for Public Impact (CPI):
At the Centre for Public Impact, we believe in the transformative potential of government to improve lives and create better outcomes for all. Yet, we recognize that many of today’s government systems, structures, and processes are not yet designed to address the complex challenges of our time. That’s why we are committed to reimagining government- working towards systems that truly serve everyone, equitably, and effectively.
As a not-for-profit organization founded by the Boston Consulting Group, we act as a learning partner for governments, public servants, and a diverse network of change makers. Though we are a small organization, our global footprint is expansive. In addition to our North America team, we have dedicated and innovative teams in Australia/ Aotearoa New Zealand, Asia and Europe. We are all aligned by the Global Hub operational team who provides people & culture, operational, finance, and communications partnership across the regions.
Our Values:
Curiosity - We champion exploration and creativity.
Courage - We are authentic and brave in our decisions and actions.
Collaboration - We share power and work together.
Empathy - We embrace others’ perspectives and experiences.
Equity - We disrupt systemic barriers to shift power.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a Senior Associate who is an entrepreneurial self-starter with a passion for public sector impact and a background in human-centered design and innovation. You will be staffed within our Bloomberg Philanthropies’ partnership portfolio and will serve as the primary “thinker and doer” on our newest innovation offerings launching over the course of the year.
The Bloomberg Portfolio
CPI has partnered with Bloomberg Philanthropies and related entities (e.g. Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation, Harvard Center for Cities) since 2018 to design and deliver programming that helps to equip public servants with innovation tools and mindsets to deliver better outcomes for residents.
Since 2018, this portfolio has trained more than 1,000 public servants in 90 cities across the world, helping public servants generate more than 25,000 ideas with residents to address pressing challenges in their local communities. Cities have gone on to design more than 300 prototypes and replicate the methodologies of the programming on more than 500 other priority initiatives. We are proud of this long-standing partnership and the ways in which we have been able to serve as a learning partner to governments around the world to explore new ways of working and collaborating. We are excited to grow our delivery team with this role and continue to expand our impact.
Key Responsibilities:
Your principal responsibilities will entail developing curriculum content, designing workshop materials, and leading facilitation and implementation of the new programming with city teams over the course of 2025. Our Senior Associates are strong individual contributors who manage 2-3 workstreams within our portfolio (see our core competencies by role here). As a Senior Associate you will…
Develop curriculum (content, presentations, workshops, etc.) for our new programmatic offerings
Support our partners and city teams (including senior-level city staff and mayors) by facilitating project workshops virtually and on-site
Maintain open and ongoing communication with philanthropic partner teams and other stakeholders to ensure effective and efficient program delivery
Foster relationships with key stakeholders with our partners, including communicating with and presenting to senior and executive level stakeholders
Contribute to the strategy, design, and execution of key project milestones for program participants
Collaborate with our portfolio’s Associate in Monitoring, Evaluation, and Impact to identify, track, and report on overall success metrics for each phase of the project
Operate independently to ensure day-to-day, end-to-end oversight of workstreams for effective, on-time delivery
Regularly engage in feedback practices with managers and peers in an effort to upskill and grow as an individual and as a team across our portfolio
This is a phenomenal opportunity if you…
You already possess strong facilitation and human-centered design skills and want to expand them in a dynamic, city-facing environment alongside world-class design professionals
You want to shape the landscape of government innovation. Your content, workshops, and insights will fuel our evolving portfolio strategy, which is poised to reach 100+ cities over the next few years.
You are motivated to grow within an expanding portfolio. As you advance at CPI, there will likely be opportunities to work across several portfolio programs and expand your reach to cities in new geographies, problem areas, and learning journeys. You will thrive with a strong growth-oriented mindset.
You love to do good work. Our portfolio is committed to analysis, communication, delivery, and relationship-building. This role is best suited for someone who already independently holds themselves to a high caliber of work. You’ll thrive if you like to dive right in; solve problems; build relationships; and approach your job with partnership and collaboration.
Qualifications:
At least 3-5 years of relevant professional experience
Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time
Fluency in human-centered design and innovation and experience facilitating professional workshops.
Deep academic or professional experience in public policy, government, innovation, community engagement, and/or human-centered design
Qualitative and quantitative data analysis skills, especially in translating observations into resonant stories and actionable insights
Demonstrable knowledge of and passion for public impact, particularly at the local government level
Exceptional project management skills and excitement to work in a fast-paced project environment
Demonstrated experience interacting effectively with colleagues from diverse backgrounds and commitment to learning about and advancing DEIB within CPI and its broader partner and city ecosystems
