Would you like to work to advocate for policies that make a positive difference to peoples’ lives?
Reporting to the Assistant Director, Head of Health and Protection, the successful candidate will contribute to the development of ABI policy on health and protection insurance by both leading and contributing to projects with ABI colleagues, government, the UK insurance industry and other stakeholders. Key workstreams for the team include developing and managing policy initiatives across patient safety, Net Zero, digital health, critical illness, and employee health and wellbeing.
Health and Protection products genuinely help people in times of great distress. They help get people back into the workplace after illness, provide a safety net for when they can’t, and ensure families have financial support after the loss of a loved one.
Knowledge of the insurance industry is not essential, but any knowledge or experience of health policy would be advantageous.
What's the job?
Work with colleagues across the ABI’s Policy, Regulation, and Advocacy Directorates to increase consumer, political and media understanding of the role health and protection insurance plays in supporting the mental, physical and financial health of society.
Engage with ABI members, stakeholders and government officials in the development of policy, using data, research and analytical skills to develop credible solutions to real problems.
Manage multiple projects, collaborating with members and colleagues to deliver the outcomes in the ABI Business Plan relating to health and protection insurance, whilst receiving the support you need to deliver project objectives.
Facilitate, contribute to and present at ABI committees and workshops, to explore problems, develop solutions, build consensus and advocate the ABI’s position.
Work with ABI colleagues to develop the ABI’s voice and role as an active partner of Government in promoting good mental and physical health by supporting individuals with prevention services and in their return to work following serious illness or injury.
Ensure ABI members receive clear, relevant and engaging information on our health and protection work and issues, including through our member newsletter and the ABI website.
Act as an effective external representative of the ABI and the insurance industry by undertaking speaking engagements and media appearances.
Work closely with the ABI’s Conduct Regulation team to provide policy input to a range of FCA Thematic Reviews and Market Studies that impact upon health and protection insurance.
Lead and collaborate with the ABI Tax team on any Protection and Health related tax issues to ensure optimal outcomes for the health and protection insurance market.
Build effective relationships with staff in member firms, developing a strong understanding of their commercial environment and the impact of regulation and legislation.
Organise, run and present at events for members and stakeholders.
This list of projects will evolve over time as they are completed, and new priorities emerge.
