About the role

Neon is EngineeringUK’s platform which helps teachers and careers leaders find quality assured STEM career activities and classroom resources about inspiring case studies of engineers. Neon is a key part of EngineeringUK’s current 5 year strategy and we aim to be educators go-to place for engineering careers inspiration.

The Neon Content Officer will support the Head of Neon with the delivery of the strategic aims of the Neon platform.  They will support the Head of Neon with sourcing and building relationships with new activity providers ensuring there is a good balance of content on the site to continuously engage the teachers and careers leaders who use Neon. This will include the management of the process of uploading and reviewing content for the Neon platform, ensuring that the content is relevant to both primary and secondary settings and shows the breadth of engineering opportunity and entry points. 

They will also support the Head of Neon to ensure that we have a strong presence in schools across the UK, prioritising reaching students who are underrepresented in engineering. They will collaborate with colleagues across EngineeringUK, including the Careers, Research & Evaluation and Communications teams.

The role is London based at our office at 10 Lower Thames Street, London EC3R 6EN and will involve some travel in the UK. 

We believe that hybrid working has many benefits and are pleased to offer flexible working with a minimum of 2 days (or 40%) a week in the office and the option for a flexible start and end to the working day in our vibrant central London office overlooking the Thames. Role responsibilities

·         Support the Head of Neon to source content for the platform through strategic partnerships and relationship building.

·         Work with activity providers, reviewing submissions, and working alongside the provider to ensure their content meets the Neon quality criteria. This will include proofreading, editing, and suggesting improvements to submissions from activity providers, finalising and uploading content to the platform.

·         Ensure that all content on Neon is kept up to date. Regularly analyse the content to ensure it responds to the needs of industry and teachers, career leaders and career coordinators and that there is a good balance of representation across all sectors, regions and ages.

·         Support the Head of Neon, to ensure that Neon has a strong presence in schools across the UK, alongside EngineeringUK’s other products and services.  Support the development of strategic partnerships, represent Neon at external meetings and events and working closely with the EngineeringUK marketing and communications team.

·         Manage the programme correspondence, responding to enquiries promptly, involving relevant internal and external stakeholders as necessary.

·         Responsible for monitoring project related data, using spreadsheets and CRM and producing reports.

·         Coordinating and managing a variety of operational tasks to support the smooth delivery of work across the team, including researching, preparing for meetings, developing presentations, and minute taking.

Essential skills/competencies

·         Experience managing content for a digital platform

·         Good stakeholder management and relationship building skills

·         Well organised with an eye for detail

Desirable skills/competencies

·         An understanding of the evidence base for STEM inspiration activities and how to evaluate their impact

·         A good understanding of the education system, STEM enrichment/outreach and careers advice.

·         Proactively seeks feedback, and is confident giving feedback to colleagues across the organisation.

·         Experience of content management systems

·         Experience of current SEO best practices

·         Experience of using Salesforce

·         Experience using Google Analytics to gain insight into site performance

·         Initiative to continually review and improve working processes

Education/level of experience

•       2 or more years’ experience of digital content creation, including editing and copywriting, either in a marketing or UX environment
