Job Description

**** THIS ROLE IS UK BASED WORKING WITH CLIENTS IN THE PUBLIC SECTOR ****

Other:

  • We welcome applications from people seeking a part-time or full-time permanent role.

  • You must have the right to work in the UK by the time of starting the role. We are unable to sponsor visas on this occasion.

We are Public Digital, a digital transformation consultancy and we help global institutions that matter thrive in the internet era. We apply the culture, processes, business models and technologies of the internet era to help teams build and run excellent services. Working with the leaders doing strategy, and the teams doing delivery, we operate globally, advising large organisations and governments on six continents.

We’re values-driven and we articulated them in our ‘positions’ on the Public Digital website.

Attitude as much as skill, is critically important to us as a team and we look for entrepreneurialism, initiative, kindness, and a willingness to pitch in. Our theory of change is: Digital. Teams. Work - we fundamentally believe transformation is about people, and that change comes from creating great teams and the conditions to successfully empower them.

Role overview

Dedicated to leading our client engagements and to building strong, pragmatic working relationships with leaders and digital practitioners in large, complex organisations and institutions. Supporting organisations and institutions endeavouring to lead in digital, applying expertise in product management, service delivery and digital technology to have a significant impact. You will help develop and support our rapid growth by generating and developing new leads within your sector, and help strengthen our global reputation.

Our sectors

We currently work across a number of sectors: Health, UK public sector, the Americas, the private sector and internationally. We encourage our people to work across sectors to gain broader experience, learn how to work in different contexts and to share approaches that help organisations that are facing similar challenges. This role will have a home within the UK Public Sector, so relevant experience is a must.

Some examples of engagements you could work on include:

  • Supporting UK central government departments to deliver critical public services at scale while radically changing their culture and ways of working, all in complex political and stakeholder environments

  • Coaching and supporting different levels of senior leadership in public sector organisations, to help them deliver on large-scale transformation programmes

  • Coaching and training NHS executive leaders in digital transformation as part of our Digital Boards programme with NHS Providers

  • Supporting health and care teams to transform their services, for instance how digital methods and technologies can support sickle cell care.

What you’ll do for us:

  • Lead large client engagements, developing strong, proactive and highly trusted relationships with senior leaders and their teams

  • Act as an advisor and coach to senior leaders in large public sector organisations, to help them deliver on their transformation plans

  • Build and coach our clients’ teams, identifying solutions to blockers, helping them to anticipate and address challenges

  • Build a comprehensive understanding of clients’ strategic direction, organisational context, operational challenges and delivery goals

  • Help organisations to dramatically increase their digital maturity, deliver outcomes, and better experiences for their users

  • Influence people in your domain of experience and domains of future work with Public Digital, supporting our business development initiatives in the UK and globally

  • Proactively generate new business development leads from your network and collaboratively with others to convert these into new engagements

  • Provide strategic digital transformation advice across client engagements

  • Develop your reputation as a thought leader on digital transformation: writing blog posts and other articles; speaking at conferences and events as a representative of Public Digital

  • Contribute to the life and growth of Public Digital as a values-led business

What we’re looking for

Many of our engagements are long term partnerships with large, complex organisations going through fundamental changes in how they work and deliver services. We are helping them on their journeys and all that entails, which can be both inspiring and challenging work. At Director level, it requires high quality judgement about when and how to support clients (drawn from your experience), resilience for the ups and downs of any transformation and empathy with the client and the PD team.

  • Ability to lead and empower teams to deliver excellent work, from start to finish

  • Experience in working in complex or challenging stakeholder environments, and being comfortable with ambiguity

  • Experience of being a highly credible coach, facilitating teams to build capability, collaborate and become more self-organising

  • Recognition as an expert in a digital related field (eg product management, agile delivery, service design)

  • Pragmatic and proactive approach to managing and delivering client engagements, including excellent levels of organisation, prioritisation and delivery management

  • A solid understanding of digital transformation in the UK public sector

  • Excellent communicator, with an ability to express data and information in a clear, concise manner, to a publishable standard, including articulating technical concepts

We are particularly interested to hear from you if you:

  • Have experience of leading digital transformation initiatives or service delivery in a UK central government department or public sector organisation

  • Have experience of working closely with senior leaders, as a trusted advisor and clear communicator at high levels of large organisations

  • Can point to written or spoken contributions you have made to digital practitioner communities

  • Have experience of contributing to business development and partnerships that result in new opportunities, by leveraging your personal network within the sector

What’s in it for you:

  • Opportunity to grow and progress rapidly within an engaged, supportive environment

  • Be entrepreneurial and contribute to the growth and success of Public Digital

  • Focus on enabling people to deliver high-impact work with leading institutions around the world

  • Be empowered to do your best job

  • Home and remote working, flexibility in how you deliver work

  • Focus on learning, development and progression

  • Ability to build and develop your expertise and profile through publishing blog posts, presenting at events and sharing knowledge and experience

  • Buddy system and prioritised mental health

  • Generous holiday allowance

  • Private healthcare.
