Job Description

About the role

As a Speech and Language Therapist, you will deliver a high standard of client-focused care, supporting children and young people aged 0–19 and, where required, adults. You will assess, formulate, and deliver evidence-based speech and language therapy interventions for individuals with a wide range of speech, language and communication needs, maintaining accurate and timely clinical records and reports.

A significant proportion of the role is delivered within educational settings. You will work directly with children one-to-one and in groups, and you will also provide practical training, advice, and strategies to school staff and parents/carers to help them support communication development in everyday environments

You will work collaboratively with the wider Community Health Team, alongside Primary Care and Education colleagues, contributing to joined-up care and effective pathways for families. The role includes participating in Early Help Assessments, attending multi-agency meetings as appropriate, and contributing to SLT service development activity, including team development days and shared learning.

About the team

You will be part of the SSAFA Community Health Team based in Akrotiri, working within a multidisciplinary environment alongside Midwives, Health Visitors, School Nurses, Community Children’s Nurses, CAMHS practitioners, a Dietitian, and Consultant Community Paediatric and Psychiatric colleagues.

You will work closely and collaboratively with a Speech and Language Therapist based elsewhere in Cyprus, as well as supporting and guiding a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant, ensuring coordinated and consistent delivery of care across locations.

The team works in partnership with a range of external agencies, including Primary Care, Education, Social Care, and Welfare services, to provide integrated, holistic support to the Armed Forces community and their families.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will be a qualified and registered Speech and Language Therapist with the ability to manage and prioritise a varied caseload effectively. You will demonstrate strong organisational and time management skills, alongside excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, enabling you to build effective relationships with children, families, and multidisciplinary teams.

A proactive approach to ongoing personal and professional development is essential, with a commitment to delivering high-quality, evidence-based care.

All SSAFA staff are expected to uphold a strong commitment to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults. You will be required to work in line with SSAFA’s safeguarding policies and procedures, as well as local Command Safeguarding Children’s Board requirements, ensuring best practice is maintained at all times.

Due to the nature of the role, a full valid driving licence and the ability to drive a manual vehicle are essential.
