Job Description
About Ecotone Partners
Ecotone Partners is a boutique funds management and advisory business focused on positive investing. We are passionate about using capital to move the needle toward a more equitable, sustainable and prosperous future. The team at Ecotone Partners has a well-established track record of structuring capital solutions, launching new investment products and successfully raising capital from private investors
We provide a range of services that act as a bridge between high growth companies with climate solutions and investors who are seeking financial returns alongside positive outcomes for the planet. Specifically, we manage the capital raising process for our clients, as well as providing them with strategic support on their fundraising options. We also selectively take on engagements to provide strategic advice on sector and market development to government, semi-government and philanthropic groups.
Put simply……..we partner with great people, on work that inspires us, to generate positive impact.
About you and the role
We are expanding rapidly and are looking for someone that can grow with our team. While the possibilities are endless the starting point is to find someone who will be able to:
Support the team in running capital raising activities including co-ordination of transaction documentation, investor materials, and data rooms. Don’t get too caught up on the technical words, these can be learnt quickly. More important are the qualities that we need……….attention to detail, strong written communication and someone who is highly organised.
Assist the team in evaluating potential investments with a focus on impact and growth potential, including undertaking commercial and basic financial analysis. Financial literacy is ideal, but you don’t need to be an accountant or an expert in building financial models. Most important is the ability to look at a business and form a view about both its financial potential and its potential for impact.
Undertake research to support sector development work, investor materials or the development of our own products. We are looking for someone who enjoys learning new things, and has a knack for finding information and insights and loves sharing them as part of their work.
Coordinate meetings and communicate with founders and investors alongside the team as we build our Ecotone Partners community. Not only are we seeking someone who is highly organised but someone who can build relationships and represent our team with professionalism and warmth (and yes, both are equally important!)
Assist in organising events with our community of founders and investors. Attend events run by others in our community. As part of our relationship building we need someone who can run the odd event and who enjoys the idea of meeting new people as part of their job. Most of this is done during business hours but once or twice a month there may be an after hours event to attend with plenty of notice.
Prepare papers and other information the team needs to drive our development as a learning organisation and to make good decisions. The highly organised thing again. Helping the whole team stay organised will be a big part of the job. You will get to learn what it takes to grow a company, because you’ll be helping grow one.
Your skills and attributes
Purpose driven: You are driven by creating positive social and environmental impact to create a better future for everyone.
Passionately curious: You thrive when you are learning. You love stumbling across new ideas, learning new things and you seek to find out how stuff works. You aren’t afraid to jump in and learn by doing, but you learn from your mistakes.
You are a team player: You take initiative and manage your own priorities but equally you care about what is going on for others in the team. You communicate well so we can manage the team's overall goals effectively. You value getting it right rather than being right.
You work things out: You’re comfortable not always knowing the answer and will take on the challenge of figuring it out. You’re resourceful and self reliant but you are also smart enough to know when to ask for help.
Critical thinker: You’re comfortable solving complex problems and expressing your view. You are adept at deploying numerical and logical thinking skills and draw on research and the expertise of those around you to tackle the many deep questions you have.
Ownership mentality: You think like a business owner and strive for excellence. You take responsibility for your work and are committed to achieving the best outcomes for the organisation. You don’t walk past something that is broken. You will seek to go the extra mile for our founders and investors.
You enjoy working at pace: You like to move quickly and get things done. You seek to deliver exceptional quality work efficiently and are able to multi-task. You thrive in a fast-paced environment, but one where you enjoy having fun as you go!
Excellent communicator: You can articulate your ideas across spoken, written and visual mediums with the right mix of information and critical analysis.
You don’t take yourself too seriously: you like to have fun and enjoy your work and your colleagues. You want to work in an environment that values trust and respect as a given, but you aren’t afraid to be yourself (or have a laugh at yourself!)
Benefits
You'll benefit from:
Having experienced professionals invest in you. Working closely with the three Founding Partners who will take an active interest in your development. Each partner has 20+ years of experience and will take a genuine interest in your growth.
Broadening your skills. Having a broad role that provides you with exposure to lots of different parts of the investment and impact investment world. This includes the opportunity to work directly with a range of founders, ventures, investors and other stakeholder groups.
The opportunity to be part of the creative process. You will be joining an organisation in its infancy. We are just starting out so you will be an active part of building something together with us.
Next steps
To get started, click on the yellow button on the top right.
You’ll answer some questions that are related to your day-to-day job. After the job closes, your answers will go through our sift process: all answers will be anonymised, randomised and then reviewed by a panel of reviewers.
If you are shortlisted, we’ll invite you to the next step, which includes a short project (approx 2 hours to complete) plus a number of interviews (likely to be 2 interviews including 1 in person and 1 via Zoom). Also, we love giving feedback, so at the end of the application process, we'll share how well you performed.
Expected duration of this application process: 3-5 weeks.
Working at Ecotone Partners
This role is full-time with flexible hours.
We believe that diverse teams make better decisions and deliver better results. We want to ensure every applicant gets an equal chance of success, hence we are using the Applied Platform. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, national origin, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age, or marital, veteran, or disability status.
We are remote first and encourage working remotely and flexible hours to accommodate the other things that contribute to your full life. We also recognise the value of being together in the same space, particularly when you are learning. So, we will work with you to find the right balance of remote and in office (Melbourne) work arrangements.
We are still in our early stages as a business. So, this is not only an invitation to join a growing team but an invitation to be an active part of building an organisation.
