Job Description
ABOUT US:
At Founders Pledge, our mission is to empower entrepreneurs to do immense good. Since launching in 2015, we’ve raised over $10 billion for the most impactful social causes. We offer the simplest path to impact for successful entrepreneurs, providing end-to-end giving infrastructure, pioneering research, and access to a worldwide network of experts. In other words, we help tech leaders become strategic philanthropists. Our 1900+ members include the people behind industry-leading companies such as Airbnb, UiPath, Dropbox, Skype, Spotify, and Uber.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
We’re now looking for a Head of Strategic Communications/Director of Communications to develop, lead and execute our strategic communications strategy. You’ll work cross-functionally to build our external brand, grow our profile and enhance our strong reputation. Reporting into our Director of Product, Tech & Communications, you’ll manage and motivate our small Communications team. This newly-created role will be instrumental in shifting our communications focus to be more strategic and public-facing, positioning Founders Pledge more effectively with our target audiences, and ultimately moving more funds to the highest-impact opportunities worldwide.
You’ll be both a leader and an individual contributor, responsible for your own communications outputs as well as those of your team. Responsibilities will include:
Collaborating with the Senior Leadership Team and other internal stakeholders to devise and deliver an organization-wide communications strategy, positioning Founders Pledge more effectively with our target audience, and managing and developing our brand, profile and influence.
Leading a proactive media engagement strategy, building and maintaining relationships with relevant media outlets, journalists, and thought leaders. This will include generating top-tier media coverage and finding innovative ways to reach our target audience, particularly in the US.
Supporting the CEO and FP’s subject-matter experts to act as spokespeople.
Overseeing digital communications, aiming to grow audiences and increase engagement (this currently includes our social media channels, various member communications through email and member app, and website).
Developing compelling and impactful narratives and marketing assets that demonstrate the impact and potential of Founders Pledge with key audiences.
Developing and driving announcement strategies, content development, approvals and dissemination plans.
Managing and mitigating reputational risks.
ABOUT YOU:
We’re open to candidates of varying seniority in this role. You might have experience as either a Head of Communications, looking to step up into a more senior position, or you could be a seasoned Director/VP of Communications.
You must have experience/knowledge of the US media landscape, and ideally bring a pre-existing and relevant network of US media contacts.
We’re also looking for:
Substantial professional experience in strategic communications, including a track record of effective media engagement.
Strong management and leadership skills – you’ve managed small (or large) high-performing teams in the past.
Experience working cross-functionally, leading projects or teams to deliver results.
An excellent understanding of communications and marketing disciplines and how to harness them to best effect.
Someone with the experience of detecting and carving great stories for the right target audiences - you love both writing and strategy planning.
Good interpersonal and influencing skills, and the drive to share your know-how and grow our organization’s understanding on all things communications.
Last but certainly not least - a stellar communicator in writing and in-person.
WHY WORK WITH US?
You can find more about the benefits we offer here, but what makes us truly special is both our mission and our people. We’re a diverse team, from both charitable and commercial backgrounds, who believe that amazing things can happen when we tackle problems together. We offer a flat structure and an opportunity to help shape the future of philanthropy.
We ask that applicants to this role are based within the UK or US. Although we have small offices in London and San Francisco, there’s no expectation for you to attend on a regular basis. At the same time, if you think you’d benefit from a desk in a co-working space close to your home, this can be arranged.
On top of this, we’ll bring the global team together annually and individual teams also get together once per year.
We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at Founders Pledge. We seek people with different strengths, experiences and backgrounds, who share our drive to understand and solve complex social challenges. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
Finding solutions to the world’s most pressing problems requires different perspectives and unique ways of thinking and we are committed to building an inclusive and diverse workplace where everyone can do their best work.
