The Opportunity 

Reporting to the Vice President, Finance, this leadership role oversees U.S., international, and Canadian domestic income tax-related work and complex projects and serves as the lead technical service provider on global tax assignments.  

What You Will Do 

Technical Responsibilities  

  • Review U.S., Canadian, and foreign tax return filings to ensure accuracy, timely submission, and compliance with technical requirements.  

  • Accountable for all company entities' tax compliance, provisions, and reporting activities.  

  • Provide senior tax advice and management to the Business Development group and senior leadership regarding planning and implementing all mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures.  

  • Ensure the tax and treasury internal financing structures are effective in repatriating cash and internal financing.  

  • Remain current with U.S., Canadian, and international tax law and maintain an awareness of tax trends and developments.  

  • Manage income tax audits, inquiries and responses, and information provided to queries from various tax authorities.  

  • Manage and review quarterly and year-end tax provision preparation and disclosures for audited financial statements per US GAAP.  

  • Support the Operations Accounting group on all commodity and indirect tax queries and audits. 

  Managerial Responsibilities  

  • Support senior management and direct the tax team in identifying, developing, and implementing effective tax planning strategies to minimize the company's global tax burden and maximize cash flow.  

  • Oversee the preparation and maintenance of monthly tax projections and external guidance within the business cash forecasts, and ensure proper communication to the business and senior management regularly.   

  • Support tax team members in setting goals and objectives, foster a collaborative cross-functional team environment, and lead a results-driven high-performing team.  

  • Guide the tax team in continuous improvement efforts and developing efficiencies in processes such as utilizing digital strategies and solutions.   

  • Collaborate and build effective working relationships with internal stakeholders, including Treasury, Financial Reporting, Business Development, and other business units, as necessary.  

  The Requirements 

  • Canadian or American CPA designation or MBA.  

  • Oil and gas industry experience.  

  • Ten years' experience with income tax in the U.S. (priority), Canada, and internationally at a public company.  

What You Bring 

  • Established knowledge of U.S., Canadian, and international income tax.  

  • Leadership experience, specifically leading a tax team, is considered an asset.   

  • Consolidation and transaction experience (acquisitions, divestments, and mergers) is considered an asset.   

  • Ability to liaise and communicate with senior leadership, the board of directors, and external tax advisors regarding various company tax issues.  

  • Strong critical thinking skills to effectively analyze various interpretations of legislation while also considering specific business goals and the practicality of running that business.
