The Opportunity

As an Assistant Controller, you will play a vital role in the operational accounting group and provide insights to support decision-making in the organization.  Reporting to the Controller, US Operations, this role will be hands-on and knowledgeable of the daily transactions in the AP/JIB/Finance groups and contribute with more complex analysis and projects, as required.  This position will provide guidance and oversight to the Finance, JIB and Accounts Payable teams, including accruals, SOX compliance, and cash forecasting.     

   

What You Will Do

  • Lead a team of 13 people in the US and Canada.  

  • Provide oversight for Accounts Payable/Joint Interest Billing Supervisor and team to help streamline processes and approve check runs and wires.  

  • Provide oversight to the Finance team, which includes monthly/quarterly operational variance analysis, audit and SOX compliance, and cash forecasting.    

  • Work closely with the operational teams in the US and the corporate office teams in Canada.  

  • Distil complex information or extensive data sets into salient explanations for senior leaders and other stakeholders.   

  • Apply knowledge of GAAP, SEC regulations, SOX compliance, and oil and gas operations to monitor proper adherence to each continually.    

  • Lead projects and encourage innovation relating to best practices in relation to systems, processes, and procedures, focusing on accuracy and timeliness.   

  • Post or prepare entries as needed to assist teams during close windows 

 

The Requirements

  • At least ten years of progressive accounting experience with extensive experience in oil and gas accounting.   

  • CPA preferred.    

  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and manage multiple stakeholders on high-visibility projects.  

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to manipulate large sets of data and pull data with analytic tools  

  • Ability to manage capacity and deliverables independently and proactively raise risks to the leader.
