Job Description

Business Analyst (2 year fixed term)

The Business Analyst is an integral part of the ICVCM PMO team, working on a range of operational maturity and technology projects. The role is responsible for supporting teams within the ICVCM Executive Secretariat to define and improve their processes, procedures and systems with the aim of enhancing operational efficiency and effectiveness. They use professional Business Analyst skills, tools and techniques to conduct research and analysis and to identify solutions to opportunities and challenges, working with project teams to implement these solutions. With a focus on the most effective, fit for purpose and efficient solution for the organisation,  challenging the status quo where required, the Business Analyst works with colleagues to ensures that opportunities to; enhance existing processes, embrace new approaches and address challenges are successfully embraced. 

 During the course of their work, the Business Analyst will produce a number of standard outputs including process maps, templates, IT system specifications and guidance materials. They will work collaboratively with colleagues at all levels of the organisation and suppliers. In conjunction with other PMO roles they will utilise their stakeholder management skills to ensure successful implementation of change initiatives to support the delivery of ICVCM’s mission and organisational objectives.  

 The Business Analyst has an analytical skillset and positive approach to problem identification and resolution using innovative solutions to demonstrate the value of and to drive change, and business improvement across the organisation.

Key duties

  • To utilise analytical skills and tools to impartially define, document and assess the efficiency and effectiveness of existing processes, procedures and tools. Presenting alternative solutions which will meet the organisations requirements. 

  • To work with colleagues and suppliers to define and document new processes and procedures, ensuring these are fit for purpose, efficient and effective. 

  • Undertake process mapping exercises, quality reviews and create, implement and manage workflow automation through processes  

  • Undertake feasibility studies which investigate the impact of identified opportunities and challenges, identifying options and considering the viability and associated risks of possible solutions 

  • Identify and agree metrics (including benefits and measures of success) for process changes 

  • Constructively challenge thinking and assumptions to effectively define impartial opportunity and problem statements and to identify and implement solutions  

  • Undertake data interrogation and translate/present in a format that is widely understandable, providing analysis, data and information to support decision making  

  • Capture and recommend, in collaboration with specialist resources (either internal or external, such as outsourced IT provider), detailed functional and non-functional requirements for proposed changes 

  • Develop and document solutions, ensuring stakeholders are fully engaged 

  • Coordinate user acceptance testing for system solutions and develop processes and procedures to ensure its effectiveness 

  • Ensure compliance with all corporate governance requirements and policies such as GDPR and information security   

  • Work effectively with various internal and external stakeholders  

  • Demonstrate and follow ICVCMs values in all aspects of your work  

  • Lead and manage staff within their area of responsibility and to ensure that they are appropriately trained, developed and motivated and to be responsible for appraising staff who report directly to them.  

  • Other duties commensurate with role as required  

Experience

Essential

  • Business Analysis professional qualification (such as, but not limited to; CCBA, CBAP, Lean Black Belt etc.) 

  • Demonstrable experience (likely to be 3+ years) undertaking business analysis and/or process improvement activities across a range of different project types, ideally in an NGO, charity or government function 

  • Evidence of innovative solution design, embracing opportunities for process and technical transformation

  • Experience and skill in business process analysis including use of business process mapping and tasks, analysis techniques and tools

  • Experience of supporting cultural and behavioural change to support new ways of working, improving the experience or outcomes for team members and/or stakeholders

  • Evidence of effective stakeholder management, engagement and communication with a range of key stakeholders, including leading workshops and securing buy in of proposals 

  • Experience of interpreting and presenting data and information to enable effective decision making

  • Experience in the capture, analysis and documentation of requirements for business change/IT solutions

Desirable

  • Experience of line and/or matrix managing project team members

  • Experience of working in an international, remote environment

  • Experience of working in carbon markets and/or carbon finance

Skills, Abilities & Attributes 

  • Highly analytical and proactive approach to problem resolutions 

  • Clear understanding of risks/issues and effective mitigation approaches 

  • Highly developed communication, challenge and negotiation skills, with the ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders   

  • Ability to proactively manage own workload, and work effectively both alone and with colleagues/stakeholders. 

  • Ability to facilitate and run group activities and workshops to obtain information required to execute the role 

  • Excellent skills in Excel including the use of pivot tables and presentation of data and Visio to present process maps (or similar) 

  • Discretion and confidentiality  

  • Excellent IT skills, in particular the use of Microsoft Office 365 suite   

  • Flexibility, adaptability, resilient to change and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment  

  • Strong interpersonal skills  

  • Positive, can-do attitude with a focus on developing ideas and solutions as part of a team
