Job Description

Role Purpose

The Digital Product Officer is responsible for coordinating the technical operation and ongoing improvement of the organisation’s suite of digital products, including the effective flow of data between integrated solutions. With a strong focus on the registrant user journey, they are responsible for connecting business requirements, user experience and technology and bringing these elements together to create useful, useable, and feasible digital products. They take a lead role in defining technical requirements for digital products and coordinating the planning, development, and deployment of updates.

Role Specific Responsibilities

  • Take a key role in the optimisation of GTC Scotland’s external-facing digital products, with a focus on improving digital service delivery. 

  • Work closely with colleagues to translate business/user needs into meaningful product requirements that align with the digital vision and strategy.

  • Contribute to vision and planning for all digital products, ensuring that users and user requirements are placed at the centre of all product design and development activities.  

  • Contribute to the development of Product Roadmaps for GTC Scotland's digital products.  

  • Maintain a Product Canvas for all digital products which contain accurate information and the appropriate details, dependencies, and interfaces. 

  • Liaise closely with third-party software developers to design features, assess viability, generate costings, and plan developments.

  • Work closely with the Data Product Officer, colleagues and suppliers to ensure the effective flow of data between integrated solutions.

  • Contribute to the documentation of digital processes and data workflows

  • Oversee the day-to-day operation and maintenance of GTC Scotland’s web products, working closely with Digital Support colleagues and suppliers to ensure effective support, issue management and bug fixing.

  • Ensure a standard approach to the Software Development Lifecycle process to manage the effective development, testing, and deployment of digital product updates and features.

  • Ensure a standard approach to change management processes, contributing to viability and impact assessment for product change requests.

  • Ensure all data product updates are appropriately logged, documented, and communicated to internal and external users.  

  • Perform other duties that may be reasonably required within the scope of your role as assigned to you.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • Batchelors Degree or equivalent qualification (SCQF Level 9), or equivalent attested vocational or work-based training 

  • Evidence of ongoing professional learning 

Desirable

  • Product Management training and certification

  • Agile training and certification

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Experience in a product owner or product management (or related) role

  • Experience in developing software products and product management

  • Understanding of digital design principles including user-centric design, prototyping and software development technologies

  • Experience working with agile methodologies

  • Experience in building and maintaining effective working partnerships with internal and external users/partners/suppliers

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills 

  • Excellent digital literacy including competency with Microsoft 365 applications (including Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Dynamics) 

  • Effective resource management

Desirable

  • Familiarity with task management systems and tools such as JIRA, Azure DevOps and Kanban 

  • An understanding of the political educational context and the impact for GTC Scotland 

  • Experience working for or with a regulatory body 

  • Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality and discretion
