Job Description  

The Senior Editor will be an important member of the editorial team, responsible for planning and managing the runway of overall editorial activity and editing written outputs. They will work closely with colleagues across the organisation to plan for and improve the content, structure and style of written materials, ensuring that their goals are effectively communicated to a diverse investor audience.

The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for what makes content engaging and useful to professional audiences, a strong knowledge of how financial markets operate and meticulous attention to detail. In addition to these core skills, they will be able to plan their own work and lead the editorial team’s planning and runway management to ensure the timely production of content in accordance with established processes in collaboration with relevant colleagues.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Manage the planning, project management and delivery of the editorial team’s work, executing a calendar of activity and ensuring content is delivered on time, while ensuring that the team’s workload is efficiently managed.

    Work with research teams to:-

  • Develop published content that is concise and engaging, improving the clarity of argument, structure and style as required;

  • Ensure published content delivers its key messages for the desired audience effectively, thus achieving its desired impact, while also aligning with the PRI’s broader views and strategy.

  • Work with colleagues across marketing and other communications functions to align activities, sharing content plans and messaging, and ensuring that written content aligns with the messaging of the wider PRI

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders across the organisation, keeping them informed and updated on publication progress and highlighting potential issues quickly and effectively, especially when content could result in a reputational or legal risk to the PRI.

  • Keep up-to-date records of publications in development via centralised content planning tools.

  • Provide editorial expertise to ad-hoc projects as required.

  • Contribute to broader communications activities as required.

  • Provide regular reporting to the Head of Accountability and Product Communications and the Director of Product Management as required.

Person Specification

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, potentially learned from other writing or editorial positions.

  • An interest in responsible investment, sustainability and ESG issues combined with a strong understanding of how financial markets operate and impact the world.

  • Proven ability to enhance the argument, structure and style of other people’s written work, develop compelling narratives and manage editorial plans.

  • Strong time management skills, including the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines while maintaining accuracy of content.

  • Excellent networking, relationship management and interpersonal skills with diverse stakeholders and colleagues, thus fostering an inclusive environment.

  • The ability to identify content or process gaps and be able to quickly come up with proposed solutions.

  • An understanding of digital publishing best practices, such as writing articles for web or use of SEO

  • Excellent understanding of English grammar and usage, including the principles of plain English.

  • Translation skills into and/or from any other major languages would be considered a bonus.
