Main duties and responsibilities

• Lead on the design and launch of a volunteering programme that creates pathways for people of all ages to access employment within health and social care for those who seek a career change or have had a break from work, and deliver an excellent experience for them and the hospital staff who support them.

• In partnership with our Volunteering Manager at St Mary’s Hospital, engage stakeholders across the hospital and the wider NHS trust to identify suitable opportunities that meet volunteers’ needs and offer them opportunities which will support the Trust’s priorities.

• Identify opportunities and volunteer roles within the NHS Trust where volunteers can contribute to the work of ward-based and outpatient teams.

• Manage recruitment campaigns for the volunteering programme, including advertising, and the selection and onboarding of new volunteers.

• Deliver agreed recruitment targets for programme deliverables for the employability project.

• Create a learning programme with materials and pastoral care that enables participants to build their confidence and skills within healthcare settings.

• Ensure all volunteers receive a high-quality induction through our core training content, any additional learning and any vetting requirements.

• Carry out a project risk assessment and actively monitor changing risk and safety arrangements within the hospital(s), ensuring that risk factors associated with the Employability volunteer roles are considered.

• Establish and maintain effective and enduring relationships with operational colleagues, volunteers, partner and community organisations, and other stakeholders.

• Plan and design methods, metrics and indicators of progress, both for the project and for volunteers, and communicate these to stakeholders.

• Develop and champion volunteering across the charity, ensuring staff engagement, interest and understanding of the added value that volunteers bring.

• Ensure the timely collation, analysis, input and distribution of all relevant project data and information to support and evaluate the volunteer programme on an ongoing basis, and provide reports on project progress to internal stakeholders.

• Communicate learning from the project based on evidence and evaluation, and be ready to adapt the programme as it rolls out to other sites. • Identify good practice and success stories, promoting the project by sharing these both internally and externally in partnership with the communications team.

• Represent the volunteering team and the wider charity, sharing lessons and reflections at external events, conferences and on appropriate steering groups, networks and stakeholders.

• Recognise the contribution and achievement of volunteers through our awards scheme in partnership with the NHS Trust, and contribute to the charity’s reward and recognition scheme by working with the Volunteering Experience Manager.

• Be an active contributor to the volunteering team’s projects, enabling us to deliver the charity’s strategy objectives linked to population health.

• Seek ways to continuously improve activities within the volunteering team.
