Job Description

Other:

  • We welcome applications from people seeking a part-time or full-time permanent role.

  • You must have the right to work in the UK by the time of starting the role. We are unable to sponsor visas on this occasion.

Who we are

We are Public Digital, a digital transformation consultancy. We help global institutions that matter thrive in the internet era. We apply the culture, processes, business models and technologies of the internet era to help teams build and run excellent services. Working with the leaders doing strategy, and the teams doing delivery, we operate globally, advising large organisations and governments on six continents.

We’re values-driven and we articulated them in our ‘positions’ on the Public Digital website.

Attitude as much as skill, is critically important to us as a team and we look for entrepreneurialism, initiative, kindness, and a willingness to pitch in. Our theory of change is: Digital. Teams. Work - we fundamentally believe transformation is about people, and that change comes from creating great teams and the conditions to successfully empower them.

Role overview

You will lead our client engagements and build strong, pragmatic working relationships with leaders and digital practitioners in large, complex organisations and institutions.

You will support organisations to lead in digital and user-centred approaches, and apply expertise in service design, user research and customer experience.

You will also contribute our rapid growth by generating and developing new leads, and help strengthen our global reputation.

Our work

We work globally and across government, multi-laterals, healthcare, education and the private sector. We encourage our people to work across different regions and areas of our business to bring their expertise to different contexts and to share approaches that help organisations that are facing similar challenges.

In our current client engagements we:

  • Support organisations to deliver products and services at scale while radically changing their culture and ways of working, in complex political and stakeholder environments

  • Coach and support different levels of senior leadership, to help them transform organisational design and delivery

  • Understand and analyse existing services and user behaviour to identify opportunities to improve the experience and economic outcomes.

What you’ll do for us

  • Lead large client engagements, with accountability for delivery, impact, our teams, and our commercials.

  • Develop strong, proactive and highly trusted relationships with leaders and their teams. You’ll act as an advisor and coach, helping them to shape transformation and deliver measurable value.

  • Apply your expertise in service design, user research and customer experience to help organisations dramatically increase their digital maturity, and to deliver better experiences for their users

  • Research and analyse pain points and performance across user journeys, balancing qualitative and quantitative methods

  • Identify, explore and quantify opportunities to improve service experiences, to meet user needs and achieve business goals

  • Proactively generate new business development leads from your network and collaboratively with others to convert these into new engagements

  • Contribute to the life and growth of Public Digital as a values-led business.

What we’re looking for

We partner with large organisations going through fundamental changes in how they work and deliver services. We help them on their journeys and all that entails, which can be both inspiring and challenging work. At Director level, it requires high quality judgement about when and how to support clients (drawn from your experience), resilience for the ups and downs of any transformation and empathy with the client and the PD team.

  • You will lead and empower teams to deliver excellent work, from start to finish

  • Your demonstrable experience will make you an excellent leader in this role. You’re seen as an expert in service design and service strategy, applied in large organisations. You’ve led design across an organisation with multiple teams and you’re able to confidently communicate the impact of your work.

  • You’re excellent at stakeholder management and comfortable working closely with senior leaders, as a trusted advisor and clear communicator.

  • You have practical experience but you’re also a credible coach, facilitating teams to build capability, collaborate and become more self-organising

  • You have a pragmatic and proactive approach to managing and delivering client engagements, including excellent levels of organisation, prioritisation and delivery management

  • You are collaborative, comfortable working in the open, and have an ability to visualise and map concepts and ideas.

  • You are committed to developing a diverse, inclusive team and culture where people thrive and do excellent work.

We’re most known for working in government, but we welcome applicants with experience of working in larger commercial organisations.

What’s in it for you

  • Deliver high-impact work with leading institutions around the world

  • An opportunity to work strategically at a leadership level, helping decision makers to make informed decisions.

  • Grow with us: the opportunity to grow and progress rapidly within an engaged, supportive environment

  • Be empowered to do your best work

  • Home and remote working, flexibility in how you deliver work

  • Focus on learning, development and progression

  • Reach a global audience as a thought leader on service design: publish blog posts and other articles; speak at conferences and events as a representative of Public Digital

  • Buddy system and prioritised mental health

  • Generous holiday allowance

  • Private healthcare
