Job Description

About us

We are Britain’s national equality regulator and a United Nations accredited ‘A status’ national human rights institution.

We uphold people’s rights without fear or favour. We use the full force of our legal powers to defend people from unfair or unequal treatment and to challenge breaches of the law. We advise on developing laws and provide guidance, training and support to enable compliance.

We bring people together to create change. We work with employers, governments and a wide range of organisations, to promote understanding of equality and human rights and we support them to make improvements in practice.

Our new strategy for 2022-25 gives us a strong platform to show that we will use our powers to protect and promote equality and human rights, and that we have identified the main challenges in society where we can make a difference in our role as a regulator.

Overview of the role and responsibilities

We are a small, friendly team in the Commission’s Finance and Procurement directorate. Our team’s role, and the Finance Business Partner roles in particular, are vital to challenge and support the wider business to manage its budgets and maximise the impact of its spend in challenging and dynamic financial circumstances.

Working as a Finance Business Partner at the Equality and Human Rights Commission, you will provide strategic support to budget holders operating in both corporate and delivery areas. In a small Non-Departmental Public Body, you will have the opportunity to get directly involved in a range of interesting and diverse work.  The role will provide the opportunity to influence and support key business functions as well as contribute to improving financial capability and decision making in the organisation.

As a Finance Business Partner you will use your financial professionalism to develop insight and understanding of our operations with the aim of supporting our objective of continual improvement in financial management.

You will:

  • Provide an effective Business Partnering service to support senior management and budget holders in their budget management and forecasting responsibilities.

  • Ensure month end activities are performed in a timely and efficient manner, including the preparation of accruals and prepayments, and providing assurance of financial commitment information.

  • Provide monthly management accounts for directorates, review and challenge forecasts, provide narrative explanations of variances and highlight any emerging risks.

  • Support the provision of high quality, timely management information and insight data, optimising the use of financial modelling and tools to support evidence-based decision making.

  • Maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

  • Work collaboratively with other Finance colleagues and other departments to ensure consistency of approach and alignment of financial plans with our overall financial strategy.

Benefits

In addition to a competitive salary, we offer a range of benefits including flexible working patterns, 30 days annual leave plus 8 bank holidays (full time FTE), access to the Civil Service Pension Scheme and partnership pension schemes, and enhanced parental leave benefits.
