We’re looking for a confident, experienced, and strategic internal communications professional, with the experience and expertise to shape Turn2us's internal communications function. Until now, internal communications has been managed across teams, but given the organisation’s growth, we're now looking to build our capacity and bring in some dedicated expertise. 

Reporting into the Head of Brand and Communications, this role will work collaboratively across Turn2us, with a strong connection to HR colleagues and specific people strategy deliverables. The right candidate will be passionate about supporting a strong organisational culture, where colleagues feel informed, valued and connected to the organisation.  

We offer flexible working patterns, both in terms of hours and remote working. Please note that all employees are required to work from the office a minimum of 1 day a week.  

Some roles may be required to be in the office more often than others and this will be agreed with the hiring manager upon starting at Turn2us.

Job Description

Job Title: Internal Communications Manager

Department: Brand & Communications Team, Income & External Affairs Directorate

Reports to: Head of Communications

Location: Hybrid: Turn2us London Hub (Farringdon) & homeworking

Type of role: Full time, 1-year fixed term contract  

Purpose of the Role: Lead on managing internal communications across the organisation. Reporting to the Head of Communications and working collaboratively across Turn2us, the role will create people-centred internal communications through a variety of channels and formats and deliver a plan which drives employee engagement

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Working closely with the People and Communications teams, create and implement an overarchingTurn2us internal communications strategy in support of the delivery of strategic goals.

  • Develop and oversee effective mechanisms and channels for sharing people and organisational news.

  • Develop internal communications and messaging aligned with the strategic narrative and plans.

  • Manage the co-ordination/drafting of content for the CEO’s internal communications and organisation-wide set pieces e.g. the all-staff monthly meeting.

  • Support the Director of People and Culture with the internal communications needed to support the effective implementation of culture change programmes.

  • Working closely with the Director of People and Culture and Head of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging (EDIB), support the implementation of the people plans.

  • Support the development of recognition programmes and employee surveys.

  • Support and amplify internal fundraising initiatives e.g. internal engagement with Challenge Poverty Week.

  • Provide advice and training for colleagues on effective internal communications.

  • Identify the most effective mix of internal communication channels and formats to support hybrid working and drive organisational cohesion.

  • Periodically evaluate the effectiveness of internal communications channels.

  • Use employee insight to improve communication plans and content.

  • Work closely with colleagues in the Brand & Communications team to ensure alignment of internal and external messaging.

  • Review and maintain internal content across relevant platforms and channels.

  • Stay abreast of developments in internal communications products, channels, platforms and approaches.

These are the normal duties, which the Charity requires from the position. However, it is necessary for all staff to be flexible and all employees will be required from time to time to perform other duties as may be required by the Charity for the efficient running of the charity. This Job Description is non-contractual. It will be reviewed from time to time and may be subject to change.

Person Specification

Skills & Abilities:        

  • Strong internal communications skills and understanding of emerging best practice.

  • Excellent writing and editorial skills.

  • Strong presentation skills and ability to tailor material to different audiences.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and nurture strong relationships with colleagues across different directorates and teams.

  • Affinity with working with colleagues across the organisation including the CEO and leadership team.

  • Ability to provide advice and guidance to colleagues on internal communications best practice.

Experience:

  • Experience of designing and implementing internal communications plans which have had a demonstrable effect on both organisational culture and the delivery of strategic goals.

  • Experience of working with an extensive range of internal stakeholders.

Personal Attributes:            

  • Ability to adapt to changing or unforeseen requirements, providing advice to colleagues on messaging and content.

  • Good judgement that inspires trust and confidence.

  • Excellent attention to detail.

  • Digital savvy with strong social media skills.
