Job Description

Historic England is excited to announce our new Team Leader(Countryside Stewardship) opportunity on a job share basis.
Requirement to attend the Bristol office two Tuesdays per month. Fixed term contract (or Secondment) to end March 2025.
This is an exciting opportunity to co-lead HE’s Countryside Stewardship Heritage Service delivering Countryside Stewardship heritage options to landowners on behalf of Defra. Working as part of a job-share, this role is about:
What you will be doing
You will be leading and building a brand-new multi-disciplinary team,
You will be delivering the target of £5m Countryside Stewardship agreements agreed in 24/25 investing in the historic environment,
Managing workloads and pipeline across the team,
Developing the guidance and processes for the team (this role would be primary lead on this aspect),
Providing advice on complex casework (job-share taking primary lead on this aspect),
Line managing 2.5 FTE Heritage Officers (4 people) and 1 Business Officer based in Birmingham, Cambridge and London.
Part of this role will job share with the other Team Leader, alongside supporting/ leading Regions Group engagement on other corporate priorities.
This is a great opportunity to help owners of rural heritage in stewardship deliver environmental gains for their communities, heritage and the rural environment.
What we are looking for
Considerable experience of leading a team delivering advice to multiple clients in a challenging timescale.
Constructive and creative problem-solving skills. Ability to deal with pressure and challenge.
Effective negotiation, influencing and problem-solving skills.
An understanding of the policy areas covered by the Countryside Stewardship programme together with a more detailed understanding of the work of one or more of them in respect of heritage assets.
An open-minded approach and interest in engaging a wider range of perspectives to broaden understanding.
Substantial experience of project management.
