Senior Advisor (India)
The Behavioural Insights Team
- Closing: 11:59pm, 5th Sep 2022 IST
Job Description
Are you looking for a new challenge and want to join a successful and growing organisation dedicated to creating social impact? Do you have a passion for public policy and behavioural science? If so, we want to hear from you.
About Us
The Behavioural Insights Team is the world leader in applying behavioural science to economic and social challenges in order to strengthen communities and improve lives. We are investing in a regional expansion program with the objective of establishing BIT as a key provider of behavioural insights services in India and South Asia. We want you to be part of the growth of our team and help us build a strong and sustainable business based in New Delhi.
BIT works across the public and private sector in almost every area of policy. Whilst each project is different, there are common threads: we try to understand the contexts in which people make decisions; we find out what has and hasn’t worked before; we come up with innovative ideas for solving policy problems and we test and measure everything we do as robustly as we can. Our focus on testing, with a body of 700 randomised controlled trials, has put us at the forefront of a revolution in evidence-based policy.
As an indication of the sort of work you could be involved in - here are some examples of projects that we work on:
Combating illegal wildlife trafficking;
Improving community based hygiene;
Encouraging healthy behaviours in online communities;
Increasing voluntary tax compliance.
All our staff believe passionately in our company values: always prioritising social impact, empiricism and humility, fresh thinking and collaboration, and lasting partnerships.
About you
We’re searching for a dynamic all-rounder to support our projects and business development work in India. This role is suited for a high-performing go-getter with a Masters degree or higher, who is building their career in public policy, research and behaviour change with minimum 5 years of work experience.
You are a passionate and imaginative individual who understands behavioural science and shares our thirst for evidence-based solutions to join our team. In this role, you will be expected to work on projects in India as well as contribute to work in other countries in South Asia and beyond.
What does a Senior Advisor at BIT do?
As a Senior Advisor, you would be involved in things like:
Managing and delivering projects - you will work with the APAC International team to implement these projects across the region.
Finding new ways to create positive social impact through the application of behavioural science, working closely with the Director for International Programs APAC.
Building new relationships by listening to clients and potential clients who are seeking advice from BIT, identifying their problems, determining the appropriate research methodology with support from our specialist researchers, and advising those clients and partners organisations based on these findings.
Working with colleagues across the organisation to build a positive and collaborative culture and ensuring that quality is maintained across the business.
Sharing and communicating insights through activities such as running workshops with clients, and addressing seminars and conferences to present project findings.
What makes a great Senior Advisor at BIT?
We are looking for people who understand what we do, share our values, and are keen to learn and develop their expertise. We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate some of the skills listed below. During your time in this role, we’ll help you to build the full range of skills you’ll need to progress your career at BIT.
Behavioural science: You can explain the implications of theoretical concepts such as defaults, loss aversion, and social norms and apply them in international development contexts.
Public policy: You can see both sides of an argument, and you think about what makes some policies, programs and services effective and others impractical.
Experience in qualitative AND/OR quantitative research, leading to a solid understanding of ‘causality’ and statistical reasoning: You know that just because sales of sunglasses and ice creams increase at the same time, one does not cause the other. You can also describe how to run a test to prove this.
Managing projects and clients. You can manage your own time and, where appropriate, that of your colleagues to produce high-quality work within a reasonable time frame.
Managing and developing yourself at work: You demonstrate high self-awareness and regularly self-reflect. You are aware of the impact that your actions and words have on those around you. You are resilient and accept responsibility for decisions whether they achieve the desired outcome or not.
Supporting and developing others: You are supportive and energize people to perform at their best. You care about the success, development and wellbeing of others and can have meaningful (and sometimes difficult!) conversations.
Clear and convincing communications. You can explain complex topics in simple terms. You can lead a workshop or presentation and write clearly and concisely.
BIT really is a great place to work:
You’ll be part of an innovative and agile team working at the forefront of cutting edge, evidence-driven applied behavioural science.
While we work in a fast-paced field, we provide a supportive environment where you’ll learn and grow with on-the-job training from our experienced team of experts. You will tap into a collegiate community of BI specialists across the world.
We encourage flexible working and have a culture which enables this. This includes flexible start and finish times, and an IT set up which allows for easy working-from-home options.
