Job Description

At Unreasonable, we build community between entrepreneurs, institutions, and investors to profitably solve pressing global problems. We believe entrepreneurial-led businesses building rapidly scalable solutions are one of the greatest untapped resources for solving the significant social and environmental challenges of our time. Every day, our team strives to give the entrepreneurs we support the resources, relationships, capital and connections to help scale their impact. We do this by connecting them with our global community of mentors, investors, business leaders, and policymakers . Today, the over 300 CEO’s in the Unreasonable Fellowship have raised more than $6.6B in financing, generated more than $5.4B in revenue, and are measurably impacting the lives of more than 720 million individuals in nearly every country and territory worldwide. But we’re just getting started...

As we’re inching toward 50 employees, we’ve reached a critical point in our organization’s growth when the needs of the business require the experience and expertise of a seasoned People & Culture Leader. Having doubled in size since the start of 2020, with teammates spanning 8 countries and a dozen states, the emergence of new business units and revenue lines, and the endless opportunities in this new age of work, we are excited to welcome a new member to our Senior Leadership Team (“SLT”) to help guide and shape this next phase of Unreasonable’s history. Reporting directly into our CEO and working hand in hand with our COO, The Managing Director of People and Culture will oversee the full life cycle of the employee experience and serve as the lead on recruiting, hiring, compensation, benefits, performance management, and professional growth. We are looking for a leader who will also help guide our team’s journey around diversity, equity, and inclusion — a strategic imperative for the company. This is an exciting, multifaceted executive leadership role within a growing organization driven by its values and mission to re-purpose capitalism to create a more just future.

  • Reporting directly into the CEO, working in sync with the COO, to oversee, steer, and manage all People Operations functions across Unreasonable

  • Help co-create and play a pivotal leadership role in building a company culture representative of what business ought to stand for in the 21st century; a culture centered on values, a shared mission, inclusion, and its people.

  • Play a pivotal role in leading our work internally and externally on diversity, equity and inclusion.

  • Plan, direct and manage all human resource initiatives: recruitment, hiring, onboarding, compensation, benefits, training, and employee retention at the organization

  • Draft, maintain, and oversee compliance across all company wide human resource related policies and practices, including but not limited to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion practices

  • Manage payroll, bonus, and benefit processes and transactions while also finding new ways for Unreasonable to take a leadership role in creating a more equitable workplace through its policies

  • Ensure policies, procedures, and HR programs are consistently administered, aligned with organizational goals and are in compliance with professional standards, state and federal regulatory requirements and laws.

  • Lead hiring philosophy and approach:

    • Evaluate, revise, and set recruiting goals and hiring process stages

    • Train hiring committees in interviewing best practices and refine processes to mitigate unconscious bias

  • Develop, iterate, and oversee all employee engagement practices

    • Internal celebrations of success

    • Recognition of individual milestones

    • Culture Pulse & external employee engagement assessments

  • Develop, iterate, and oversee all employee performance mechanisms

    • Performance Management and Professional Development Plans

    • Peer and Manager 360 feedback loops

  • Oversee employee compensation: philosophy, approach, and maintenance

    • Facilitate and manage all compensation reviews

  • Maintain engagement pulse across the team to ensure a satisfied, motivated and engaged staff

  • Act as a voice for Unreasonable’s culture and practices both internally and externally

  • Play a pivotal role in ensuring our team co-creates, has ownership, and lives up to our own expectations of a company culture that is accountable to its core values

  • You have extensive working experience across all People Operations functional areas including hiring & recruiting, US employment law, onboarding, training and development, employee relations, performance management, compensation and benefits, and PEO assisted global employment matters

  • You thrive in a small, fast-growing and entrepreneurial company dynamic. Ideally you have experience in leading people operations, culture, and equity work in companies ranging from 20 - 200 employees in size.

  • You pride yourself in leading progressive People Operations but are comfortable navigating and executing across the entire spectrum of Human Resources

  • You are a strong leader with a track record of building and growing diverse, inclusive, high performing teams. You care deeply about your team and their personal and professional growth

  • You believe Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is separate from People Operations but know it is inextricably tied to people practices and cornerstone to a thriving team culture

    • You have experience supporting the work of DEI practitioners and implementing people practices in line with DEI goals

  • You’ve built systems and processes that go from “scrappy” to “scaled.” You’re seasoned in process improvement and optimization.

  • You have a strategic mindset with a relentless focus on execution.

  • You love achieving results that matter on the larger scale of the employee experience

  • You are a team player and rarely say, “That’s not my job”

  • You believe that when work is done well, magic is in the details

  • You are what we would refer to as a GyShiDo Master

  • You are equally able to work alongside a partner or team as well as have an ability to take full ownership of a project from start to finish

  • You believe in putting Family & Health First and strive to model personal wellbeing practices for your team, caring for yourself sustainably especially in times of stress or fatigue

  • You are passionate about entrepreneurship as a catalyst for global change

  • As you read about Unreasonable’s core values, you get more and more excited with each value you come across

“The object of life’s journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting, ‘Holy Sh*t, What a Ride!'”—Mavis Leyrer
