Job Description
When meeting us, you’ll quickly discover that the best thing about the Association of British Insurers is the people. We’re hugely proud that 99% of our people think individual differences are respected and we are empowered to bring our whole self to work without fear of judgment and embrace all our differences as every voice matters. If that sounds like your sort of culture, read on to find out how you can join us.
We are open to flexible, part time and/or job share working – please let us know if this would be your preference. We work in a hybrid way with at least 40% of time in the office.
We’re looking for a Communications Adviser/Officer to work on the front line of the Association of British Insurers media team and to contribute to the wider comms function, generating proactive media coverage, managing reactive enquiries and representing our work to members and stakeholders.
This is a c. 12 month maternity cover contract.
This is a great opportunity to join a fast-paced, highly respected media team which deals with the full breadth of national, regional and trade media, across print, online and broadcast, handling a wide range of issues that really matter both to consumers and the insurance and long-term savings industry.
We welcome people who are new to insurance (most of us were when we joined) – as well as those with experience.
What’s the job?
Proactively generate media opportunities for us and maintain good relationships with national, trade and broadcast media and journalists.
Deal with reactive media enquiries, ensuring us and our industry are portrayed as positively as possible in the media and to stakeholders.
Tailor articles, comment, press releases, social media content, speeches and briefings to a wide range of audiences.
Help colleagues prepare for broadcast opportunities.
Work with the Campaigns and Marketing team to devise and implement digital content ideas for our website and across all our social media platforms.
Monitor relevant media coverage and analysing the success of our own activity.
Please note you will participate in the out-of-hours rota (shared among the team), dealing with urgent media enquiries during evenings and weekends when necessary.
What skills do you need?
Press office knowledge – you’ve worked in public relations, journalism or media relations and have relationships with journalists in national press.
Amazing comms skills – you can write engaging, concise content tailored to a variety of audiences and get traction with the media with the content you produce.
Relationship management – as well as knowing how to deal with press enquiries, you’re a professional, helpful colleague and can work effectively with a range of external stakeholders.
Digitally-savvy – you know how to use digital and social media in a professional context.
Organisation – you can manage a fast-paced, busy and reactive workload and juggle multiple priorities with ease.
Throughout the interview and assessment process, we will be looking for you to demonstrate our values; We are Brave; We take Ownership; We are Appreciative; We are Human and We are Curious.
Inclusion matters to us:
We welcome applications from candidates from all backgrounds and we run our application process a bit differently – we don’t assess based on CV or past experience. We’ll ask application questions which are relevant to the role and the skills we need to ensure our process is fair, inclusive and everyone has equal opportunity to demonstrate their suitability.
