Job Description
If you are a bit of a data geek and have a knack for unravelling database mysteries, then you may just be the Database Lead we’re looking for to join the IT team of a national anti-poverty charity.
Turn2us is a national charity tackling poverty and the structural causes of poverty. We work with co-producers and partners to provide people in financial crisis with the means and agency to get back on their feet, build resilience, move forward with their lives and thrive.
Turn2us is looking for someone to fill an important role in the IT team to consolidate the development and maintenance of a number of databases, including a cloud-based CRM, and SQL databases that store data from web-based tools.
This role will also support on-going data related projects, such as the continuous development of our newly implemented Beacon CRM and the data warehouse project that will integrate various data sources into a central repository.
The Database Lead role will work alongside the Head of IT in delivering improvements, introducing processes that can support Turn2us staff with how they use and manage data. This role will also be responsible for producing and maintaining staff training materials specific to the use of the CRM.

We offer flexible working patterns, both in terms of hours and remote working. Please note that all employees are contractually required to work from the office a minimum of 4 days a month. Some roles may be required to be in the office more often than this and this will be agreed with the hiring manager upon starting at Turn2us.
Job Description
Department: Finance and Resources
Reports to: Head of IT, Sophia Salem
Location: Hybrid: Head Office, Hammersmith, London, W6 & Home Working
Purpose of the Role:
As the CRM and database systems owner, you will develop, configure and maintain Turn2us’ Beacon CRM and Data Warehouse. You will be the subject matter expert on projects that impact the CRM and databases, such as the centralised Data Warehouse development project which will act as our Single Source of Truth (SSOT), as well as being the source of data for Tableau dashboards across the organisation (a separate project managed by the Data Analytics Lead). In addition, you will continually develop Beacon to better support processes for each department and provide necessary end user training to embed the system.
This role is part of the Finance and Resources directorate, where as a team we work across the organisation to support the Finance, HR and IT functions of the charity.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
1. As the system owner, administer, maintain and monitor the CRM and database systems to ensure data integrity, proper use and secure functioning.
Install, configure, and upgrade database software and related products.
Design, implement and maintain backup and recovery strategies.
Manage security by implementing and maintaining appropriate access controls.
Monitor database performance and perform database tuning, optimization, and capacity planning.
Keep up to date with industry trends and emerging technologies in CRM and database administration.
Set and maintain standards in using the CRM through a consolidated understanding of how the data is structured and used across the organisation.
2. Lead the design and implementation of database enhancements and changes through projects.
Develop, test and rollout new data integrations.
Collaborate with developers in the Digital team and Data Analytics Lead to ensure database requirements are met.
Work closely with system administrators and different teams across the organisation to maintain consistent approach to change management.
3. Provide end user support and training to ensure proper use and increase end user confidence in using Beacon CRM.
Diagnose and troubleshoot issues/queries raised and perform corrective action as necessary.
Work with teams to identify training needs, develop and deliver training.
Monitor the Beacon Teams channel to ensure posted conversations on the use, workarounds and solutions are consistent with set standards.
Duties:
Maintenance and configuration of Turn2us’ Beacon CRM instance.
Maintenance and eventual decommissioning of legacy CRM data from Harlequin and Iris stored in SQL databases.
Maintenance of the Data warehouse once implemented.
Support different departments for database-related requests, such as but not limited to data exports, imports and reporting.
These are the normal duties, which the Charity requires from the position. However, it is necessary for all staff to be flexible and all employees will be required from time to time to perform other duties as may be required by the Charity for the efficient running of the charity. Person Specification
Skills and knowledge:
Strong command of SQL and SQL server tools.
Strong project management and analytical skills.
Excellent GDPR knowledge.
Knowledge of database security, backup and recovery, and performance monitoring standards.
Knowledge of cloud-based database architectures and technologies.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Experience:
Experience in working with large data sets using Excel functions and/or SQL queries (essential).
Experience of database administration (essential).
Experience in managing a CRM within a charitable organisation (desirable).
Experience of implementing database projects, including API integrations (desirable).
Experience working with databases used by Data Analysts, such as data warehouses/lakes, ETL processes, and reporting tools (desirable).
