About the UN Global Compact Network UK

We are a multi-stakeholder initiative connecting UK companies to the United Nations Global Compact, the world’s largest responsible business initiative. The Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact, rooted in UN treaties, provide a robust foundation for corporate sustainability and business action on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Our mission is to promote sustainability leadership to create a world we want to live and do business in, by inspiring ambition, enabling action, and collaborating to shape the business environment.

The UN Global Compact Network UK has over 800 participating companies and we are growing quickly. The Network Secretariat Team is currently 25 people strong and also growing. Passionate about a sustainable future, the part time HR Manager will report directly to the Executive Director and will deliver our employee value proposition. It is an exciting and critical role within the team will support a workplace culture that unlocks the potential of people and attracts, develops, and retains the talent we need to achieve our mission. This part-time role offers a unique opportunity for a proven HR Manager who thrives on a blend of strategic and operational HR accountability and delivery.

About you and the role

We're looking for:

  • Someone who is an experienced human resources generalist with a passion for people development and knowledge of managing the full employee lifecycle, including change management.

  • Someone with the ability and confidence to implement both strategic and operational people plans.

  • Someone who can drive positive organisational culture to ensure the best possible conditions to shape our employee experience, influence line managers, and champion people development.

  • Someone who has proven ability to build and maintain credibility and effective relationships at all levels of an organisation, partnering with the Executive Director to manage people performance, ensure the right organisation structure and capabilities.

  • Someone with excellent attention to detail, administrative effectiveness, and superb organisational skills to manage a varied workload.

  • Someone who communicates effectively and can play a central role in supporting internal communications.

In your first six months in the role:

After your onboarding, you will be asked to lead the implementation of our new People Strategy with specific deliverables for 2024 including: the embedding of a performance framework and development planning process. We will also need you to support recruitment and onboarding of new staff.

What are the next steps?

If you proceed with your application, you'll be asked to complete an equal opportunities questionnaire. Next, we'll collect some essential admin information. Finally, we will ask you to answer four questions designed to demonstrate your ability to do the job. To avoid bias, all answers will be anonymised, randomised, and then reviewed by a panel of reviewers. We do not look at CVs until later in the process. Your scores on these questions will be the primary consideration in whether you are invited for an interview.

We plan to conduct interviews from mid-January and make an appointment shortly thereafter.
