We’re looking for senior engineers to help us rebuild an outdated industry

As a senior engineer, you’ll build products that make a real difference to people, at one of the most important times in their lives.

It’s an exciting time for engineering at Habito. We’re transitioning to a new tech stack, moving to event-based microservices and products using TypeScript. That means rearchitecting and rebuilding our current stack using more modern tech – and that’s where you come in. 

Here’s more about what you’ll do:

• Rebuild and transition our products to a new tech stack. If you haven’t worked with Haskell before we’ll help you get up to speed with our existing technology stack first, of course.

• Lay the groundwork for how we build TypeScript/NodeJS-based microservices. We already use TypeScript on the frontend but we’re going all-in on the backend too – you can have a lot of impact here.

• Work in a team to build useful, delightful products that make things easy for customers. You’ll be working with product managers, designers, engineers, stakeholders, all kinds of people. You’ll be a key part of the product development process from the start, and a vital voice on user experience too.

• Help us make engineering at Habito the best it can be. Champion better engineering practices. Improve our codebase using a broad range of technologies – and suggest new tech directions for us to explore. Help build a culture of automated testing and specification, through well-designed strongly-typed interfaces, property testing or end-to-end integration and system tests.

• Support your fellow engineers in their growth and work. Learn on the job, and share your knowledge. Help your team operate effectively by breaking problems down into simpler pieces.

The technology we use

Our technology stack is ever evolving. Our team works in a polyglot monorepo built using Bazel and Nix. We deploy automatically multiple times daily, and make use of Terraform, ArgoCD, Docker and Kubernetes in AWS. We use ElasticSearch and Kibana for our logging stack and Prometheus for our monitoring and alerting. We value pragmatic, thoughtful solutions with a focus on reliability and maintainability.

Our engineers come from a number of backgrounds. We have self-taught team members working with graduates from universities and bootcamps alike. Some of us have worked in large corporations while some of us have only ever known startups. Some of us enjoy full-stack work, others prefer to specialise in certain areas. Whatever kind of engineer you want to be, we’ll try and get you there – and support you with everything from regular talks and reading groups, to sponsored meet-ups and conferences.
