Job Description
Summary
We are the public body that looks after England’s historic environment. We champion historic places, helping people understand, value and care for them.
Historic England have a fantastic opportunity for you to join us as our Marketing Manager, developing and delivering Historic England’s Marketing Strategy, to ensure our brand is leveraged effectively.
In this role you will be developing and delivering Historic England’s Marketing Strategy, to ensure our brand is leveraged effectively. Providing management oversight and developing the Marketing team. Working on key projects across Historic England. Targeting and connecting with our audiences with the right messages and creative content across all platforms to inspire people to understand, enjoy and look after England’s spectacular historic environment.
The location of this role is National where we offer hybrid working, you will be based in one of our following offices and from home - Newcastle, York, Manchester, Birmingham, Swindon, Bristol, Portsmouth and Cambridge.
What you will be doing
Strategy
Deliver marketing plans against key objectives in Historic England’s Corporate Plan including increasing our relevance and brand awareness, and encouraging people to see the historic environment as part of their everyday lives, and to get involved.
Assist the Head of Marketing and Senior Marketing and Brand Manager in the development and delivery of strategic plans for brand and marketing, incorporating audience development and creative delivery in order to increase audience reach and awareness.
Assist the Head of Marketing and Senior Marketing and Brand Manager in the delivery of Historic England’s work in encouraging Active Participation as part of our Future Strategy.
Leadership
Assist the expansion of an audience-led approach to public engagement across the organisation underpinned by a strong brand proposition and in-depth customer insight and analysis.
Manage a team of three line reports, ensuring team members work collaboratively within the Public Engagement group and build trusted and positive working relationships across the organisation to source, create and share compelling content.
Identify engagement opportunities and work with key partners, funders, stakeholders and creative suppliers to drive campaigns and progress brand partnership opportunities.
Delivery
Work with the Head of Marketing and colleagues across Public Engagement to deliver brand and marketing campaign plans that are inspiring, relevant and impactful.
Assist the Head of Marketing and Senior Marketing and Brand Manager in developing and refreshing Historic England’s visual identity.
Work with colleagues across the organisation to deliver strategic insights and ideas as a result of market research, communications monitoring and campaign implementation.
Deliver multi-platform, integrated and cost-effective marketing and communications plans, working with teams across Public Engagement to promote key projects and programmes.
Ensure that Historic England attracts new and diverse audiences, especially through embedding and developing the Historic England Audience System, and rolling it out to the wider heritage sector.
Work with the Senior Brand & Marketing Manager and the Photographer (Marketing) to develop an effective approach to people photography, which captures the historic environment and highlights the impact of Historic England’s work, particularly on people and communities.
Enable key stakeholders including HS HAZs and SFM delivery partners to create their own brand content through providing assets, guidelines and templates.
Act on our insights to encourage behaviour change and increased pride in the historic environment.
Cross-group working
Work across the Public Engagement group and key staff across Historic England to provide strategic and operational advice, assisting departments on the use of the brand, and delivery of marketing activity.
Manage the creative briefing and delivery process to ensure we are effectively and efficiently triaging requests for creative/content scheduling and production.
Participate in national and cross-Group projects which support corporate priorities and take a lead where appropriate in key projects.
Develop marketing plans for commercial products including paid-for services, publications and fundraising activity.
Learning
Develop knowledge of all the areas of work undertaken by the group to offer enhanced marketing services to internal and external customers.
Keep up with new developments and source creative inspiration within the heritage, culture, brand and marketing sector.
Management
Ensure we have the policies in place to effectively collect and manage data about our audiences and stakeholders, and to manage risks to our reputation and brand.
Work with Content and Marketing colleagues to deliver multiplatform products, including the CRM and Digital Asset Management systems, which improve our understanding of customer interaction, enhance engagement and improve conversion.
Manage resources within budgets, meet and achieve continuous improvement in productivity and professional excellence across the Marketing team.
As a manager, ensure our legal obligations and the expectations set out in our policies are met, including health & safety, equality & diversity, finance, procurement, information security and managing people.
Who we are looking for
Experience of delivering integrated, audience-led marketing and engagement strategies
Experience of successfully managing and motivating a high-performing team
Demonstrable experience in managing audience development and market research programmes
Experience of managing brand and proposition development; overseeing awareness building and monitoring
Proactive and resourceful with the ability to implement tactical marketing at speed and make maximum use of limited resources.
Strong creative judgement and ability to inspire excellent visual output and translate brand proposition across different platforms.
