Strategic Leadership

  • Lead and manage the organisation, working with the Board to ensure that organisational structure and accountabilities are aligned with strategic and operational requirements, and implementing change as required.

  • With the Board, develop POhWER’s strategic and operational plans and direct their implementation throughout the organisation.

  • Provide vision and communicate a clear and inspiring strategic direction.

  • Motivate and align staff and their work to POhWER’s strategy.

  • Articulate and model POhWER’s values, ensuring that these are consistently applied across the organisation.

Organisational Management

  • Work with the Board and the Executive Team to ensure that POhWER’s mission is delivered, statutory and regulatory duties are observed and that strategic and operational objectives are implemented.

  • To effectively lead and support the management team, ensuring that strategic plans are communicated and embedded in all personal and team plans in order to deliver the agreed priorities and outcomes for the organisation.

  • Develop the organisational culture ensuring effective management, support and development for direct reports and throughout the Charity.

  • Maintain and develop appropriate targets, KPIs, and reporting systems, to deliver high performance and to ensure that relevant quality standards are met, and that they are aligned to deliver the agreed strategic priorities and desired outcomes.

  • Ensure that a long-term business development and income generation strategy is devised, implemented and monitored.

  • Ensure compliance with employment and equality legislation and good practice. • Ensure that all staff, volunteers, customers, partners, volunteers, and beneficiaries are respected and valued and that POhWER’s commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion is upheld.

  • Provide visible leadership to the entire organisation, regularly communicating, inspiring and motivating at all levels.

Governance

  • Develop and sustain productive relationships with the Board of Trustees to ensure that POhWER’s governance adds real value to the organisation’s future development and growth.

  • Ensure that all company secretarial, regulatory, statutory and ethical obligations are met on behalf of the Board of Trustees.

  • Review and evaluate the levels of risk to ensure appropriate governance and mitigation is in place, paying particular attention to regulated activity.

  • Implement Board policies and procedures and build support for Board decisions amongst staff.

Financial Management

  • Work with Director of Finance and Resources and the Executive to develop the annual budget; ensure that financial management information is provided to the Board; and to monitor performance against budget and take necessary corrective action.

  • Maintain a secure financial base for the organisation by ensuring that all services and projects are adequately financed; that all contracts are appropriately constructed and managed and that budgets and financial and investment policies are well planned, communicated and maintained.

  • Assume responsibility for the fiscal integrity of the organisation and to the Board for the overall financial health of the organisation.

  • To develop and maintain reserves according to the Reserves Policy.

External Relationships, Marketing and Communications

  • Promote POhWER’s public profile and professional credibility and represent the organisation externally at the highest level, both locally and nationally, and act as the spokesperson for POhWER.

  • To promote human rights by raising awareness of human rights, and campaign, when necessary, to protect against any threats to human rights.

  • Promote and represent POhWER to the media, both locally and nationally, central and local government departments, existing partners, supporters and health and social care professionals.
