About the IMEU:
The Institute for Middle East Understanding (IMEU) is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit that educates audiences in the U.S. about Palestine and Palestinians through media. We do this by offering mainstream U.S. media access to facts, analysis, and experts to help them cover the issue accurately and in-depth and by creating and disseminating original videos, photo essays, and other content.
About the Role:
The Video Editor is a core member of IMEU’s digital team and plays a central role in translating IMEU’s stories into effective visual content across platforms. This social-first position collaborates on the creation of compelling video content, translating complex political and cultural issues into accessible, engaging media by editing, adapting, and optimizing videos for social platforms.
The role works closely with writers, strategists, and other content producers to ensure strong narrative cohesion, visual consistency, and alignment with IMEU’s broader communications strategy.
The Video Editor will be accountable for the following areas:
Administration and Asset Management
Participate in team meetings and collaborate with the digital team to ideate formats and visual approaches aligned with broader strategy.
Identify and use appropriately licensed music, photography, footage, fonts, and other creative assets for video edits, in coordination with the Associate Director of Design
Help source and organize assets needed for video editing and post-production.
Organize and maintain video files and project assets to support efficient editing workflows.
Video Editing
Support post-production coordination as needed under the direction of the Associate Director of Design
Experience editing video for Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube, and X
Ability to version content across social media platforms (aspect ratios, pacing, and captions)
Edit and adapt short- and long-form video content based on approved concepts, scripts, or briefs that inform, contextualize, and inspire engagement
Edit rapid-response, explanatory video content based on news developments and approved messaging.
Edit original footage and b-roll into polished video content, including captions, graphics, sound design, and closed captions
Ensure all video content aligns with organizational messaging, tone, and editorial standards
Adhere to production timelines and deadlines
Stay current on emerging video editing techniques
Maintain visual consistency across assets by adhering to IMEU’s brand guidelines for typography, color, layout, and visual tone.
Qualifications:
5+ years of professional experience in video editing
Strong storytelling skills with an eye for visual narrative, pacing, and clarity
Demonstrated background in digital publishing and social media formats
Proficiency in Adobe Suite and CapCut
Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to follow and contribute to efficient editing workflows and processes.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to anticipate and address challenges proactively
Capacity to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines, whether independently or collaboratively
Positive, solution-oriented attitude with a focus on growth and learning from feedback
Commitment to IMEU’s mission and a passion for social justice and Palestinian rights
