Job Description

When meeting us, you’ll quickly discover that the best thing about the Association of British Insurers is the people. We’re hugely proud that 98% of our people think individual differences are respected and we are empowered to bring our whole self to work without fear of judgment. If that sounds like your sort of culture, read on to find out how you can join us.

We have a fascinating role for someone who wants to get involved in an exciting project for the insurance and long-term-savings industry; the Investment Delivery Forum (ID Forum). This project brings together major insurance and long-term savings firms with an interest in large-scale infrastructure investment. Our industry is a major investor, and we have made a pledge to invest £100bn in UK productive assets over the next ten years – for instance in ‘green’ initiatives like offshore floating wind farms or electric charging networks that are crucial if we are to hit our net zero targets. The ID Forum has been established to make sure the industry is in the best place possible to meet this £100bn pledge.

This fixed term role will run until the end of June 2025. In this contract you’ll have the opportunity to meaningfully contribute to the success of the project through leading project planning and governance activity. You’ll also support the team in researching and developing new policy initiatives for ‘green’ investment opportunities for the industry. This role provides the opportunity to get involved in career-defining work with exposure to senior stakeholders across the industry and government and is a role which could take your future career in a range of exciting directions.

What’s the job?

This role will focus on leading end-to-end project planning activity, ensuring workstreams are on track, and excellent stakeholder communications are delivered in a timely manner. It also collaborates with others to research and develop new policy initiatives around ‘green’ investment opportunities and involves engagement with government bodies and initiatives to make the case for how institutional investors can support the government’s clean and economic growth missions.

• Take ownership of project planning activity including defining objectives and tasks across various project strands, mapping timelines for delivery, and using tools to record activity and monitor progress.

• Communicate project updates to a range of internal and external audiences, and lead preparations for ID Forum meetings (e.g. collating papers, drafting minutes etc).

• Lead research, and monitor external developments, to identify opportunities for insurers to maximise ‘green’ investment opportunities.

• Work with colleagues in the Policy Directorate and Public Affairs teams to develop the ABI’s policies and member offer on blended finance.

• Actively develop and maintain relationships with a network of key contacts including member companies, Government departments (e.g. HM Treasury), devolved nation governments, and cross-industry groups.

• Work with colleagues in the ABI Corporate Affairs teams to help showcase industry investments and highlight the industry’s contribution to UK productive assets

What skills are we looking for?

• Excellent planning and organisational skills with demonstrable experience of managing and tracking multiple workstreams simultaneously and independently.

  • Excellent communication and relationship management skills – you know how to approach stakeholders of all levels and backgrounds.

•Ability to understand complex policy issues and risks – you can get up to speed quickly with the technical detail.

•Ability to work independently and using own initiative to deliver outcomes for members.

• An analytical mind – you use evidence to back up your decisions.

• Demonstrable lobbying skills – you can influence and persuade senior people in member firms, Government, regulators and elsewhere.

• Effective presentation skills – you know how to tailor you message to your audience.

We encourage you to apply, even if you don’t have all the skills above right now.

Throughout the interview and assessment process, we will be looking for you to demonstrate our values; We are Brave; We take Ownership; We are Appreciative; We are Human and We are Curious.

We welcome people who are new to insurance (most of us were when we joined) – as well as those with experience. We are open to flexible, part time and/or job share working – please let us know if this would be your preference. We work in a hybrid way with at least 40% of time in the office.

Inclusion matters to us

We welcome applications from candidates from all backgrounds and we run our application process a bit differently – we don’t assess based on your CV. We’ll ask application questions which are relevant to the role and the skills we need to ensure our process is fair, inclusive and everyone has equal opportunity to demonstrate their suitability.

We are proud to be a Disability Confident employer and are committed to making adjustments to help you perform at your best in our recruitment process. Additionally, where practicable, we offer an interview to disabled candidates who meet the minimum requirements for a role. To discuss, please contact careers@abi.org.uk
