We have a fascinating role for someone with an interest in financial and corporate reporting. The insurance industry is incredibly diverse and varied, and so the scope of your work will be, too. What’s the job?
This role will work closely with the Assistant Director, Head of Tax & Reporting, and other members of the department to assist in the development and implementation of policy on issues concerning financial and wider corporate reporting; and to represent industry views and interests to UK government and regulatory authorities, and other relevant parties.
Policy development lead on financial and wider corporate reporting issues of particular interest to UK insurers. This will include both international (IASB and UKEB) and domestic (FRC and DBT) issues in relation to IFRS and UK GAAP, and other aspects of insurers’ reporting through their annual reports and accounts such as their strategic reports.
Formulate and communicate persuasive policy initiatives that address legislative and regulatory concerns and enhance the reputation of the industry.
Stakeholder engagement, internally with colleagues and externally with members and both UK and international (including Insurance Europe) stakeholders.
Policy development support on insurers’ tax issues as relating to financial reporting requirements.
Policy development support on prudential reporting issues e.g. Solvency II, and IAIS initiatives) and domestic (PRA) issues.
What skills are we looking for?
A qualified or part-qualified accountant (for example, a newly qualified or final exams stage ICAEW, ICAS, ACCA or similar).
Some knowledge of the financial services/insurance industry and a good understanding of the UK‘s reporting environment.
Ability to speak and write articulately on relevant financial reporting, wider corporate reporting and other regulatory issues at different levels of detail tailored to your audience.
Attention to detail and the capacity to understand and influence technical regulatory issues and industry developments.
Strong analytical, numerical and technical capabilities to deal with complex multi-layered issues.
Willingness to build and manage credible relationships with members and external stakeholders, as well as your colleagues.
Lobbying skills, including the ability to influence and persuade senior people in member firms, Government, regulators and elsewhere, and to argue persuasively for the industry’s interests.
